Hope I am doing the right thing here, I could not wait for Scarlet anymore and chose this over the XH A1 and the 5D for better video control. Now to get my settings right. Thanks for all the info here and I hope to help others in the future
 
Congrats dude, you will love it, I did the same thing, couldn't wait for scarlet, well i knew it was going to be a while...

can't wait to see some footage!
 
Congrats and welcome, I could not wait for Scarlet and I bought a 5Dm2, had it for two weeks, sold it and bought the 150. Great cam you will enjoy it...
 
I also was highly considering an XH-A1 and glad I changed my mind....

Tapes....ewwww...no more tapes for me...:beer:
 
Thanks all! I plan to make good use of the camera. Neo Scene is what sold me on its speed and quality. Here is a Vimeo link of the type of stuff I will be shooting. Any advice for me coming from an HV30 would be great. I still don't know when to use knee or pedstal, so I have a lot to learn.

You made the right decision IMO. If Scarlet ever does come out, and if it ends up being everything it was cracked up to be, you can always sell the HMC for a pretty good price on the used market. And while the XH-A1 is a fine camera, the HMC exceeds its capabilities, you will see.
 
I feel the same way and at this price.. it's a real no brainer. I bet after a year of work, I'd still be able to get 2k for the camera. That's like getting to rent it all year for 1200 bucks. Not a bad deal either way..

I hope that Scarlet isn't a huge let-down but I wasn't going to be a fanboy on that Red forum speculating and wasting valuable energy. When it hits the streets and can prove that it has it's own mojo and isn't a POST nightmare, then I'll consider it's merits and purchase it.

I've jumped from camera to camera, manufacturer to manufacturer so loyalties asised, I go with what I want the most. Overal though, DVXuser will be a part of that decision in the future. I also think that Barry will be most influencial in my decision. He hasn't steered me wrong after 3 years of being on this site.


Also, when do people really think it'll be shipping? I think it will be 4th quarte of this year if our economy is still intact..
 
Yep I was going to wait for the Scarlet when it was 3k for 3K shipping Summer 2009. Now its shipping Fall/Winter 2009 for the fixed lens, but they may be pushed back because of the economy. So I decided instead of waiting and still shooting SD i would upgrade to the current champion of quality for 3 grand the HMC! OH YEA
 
After NAB, i'll either be purchasing:

two HMC 150's and a nice tripod

or one EX1, a nice tripod, and a 35mm adapter kit with rods.

...to accompany my little HV30.

decisions, decisions.
