There's still new hackable GH1's out there! I ordered Monday, 10/25/10, received the 26th with prime overnight. I'm a complete GH1 n00b, but the revs listed on screen 4 of the Setup menu are Ver 1.2 for both the body and lens (14-140), and the body s/n is WE0AD001xxx. I bought it straight from Amazon, new, $999.95. Maybe the GH1 supply from Panny is drying up and Amazon got the older cams from some other warehouse? From this great site, I see I've got a LOT to learn...

That's weird and sucks Pixelwrangler. Are you sure it's unhackable? My understanding was that vers 1.34 was the killer. Any serial below WE0Exxx should still have the old firmware, like mine and Doogs. But I guess its possible we just got into a different, older batch since we both ordered after the 15th of Oct. Did you order amazon prime? Maybe amazon stock comes from different places?
Check it.
First check the serial number.
Then check the actual version. It might be 1.32 (hackable) not 1.34 (not hackable)

Oh - Please don't tease me - I just went to check the version and the battery died on me! Last I check it , I thought it was on 1.3 - no 1.32 or 1.34 just 1.3. Is there a way to further check the firmware? And the serial starts with WEOS

Yikes, PixelWrangler. Serial numbers "lower" than WE0F (June 2010) would be from May 2010 and earlier - or WE0E, WE0D, WEOC, WEOB or March, April, May, etc. Your WEOS model was makes no sense. Serials should only go up to WE0J - (October 2010) . I'm know I've read that there's a way to go deeper into the menu structure if you're camera shows 1.3 to determine if it's version 1.32 or 1.34, but I'm not finding it this afternoon. Sorry to keep you on edge but you've got strange camera there.

Yikes, PixelWrangler. From what I understand about the serial number naming conventions, the fourth letter represents the month of production. Thus, WEOA=Jan 2010 WEOB=Feb, etc. With WE0E mid June being the cutoff. Cameras after that came with the 1.34 version firmware which is unhackable. WE0J=Oct. 2010 should be the highest possible serial number right now. By this convention, WE0S shouldn’t exist. So you’ve got an odd duck there. I know I’ve seen posts on how to dig deeper into the 1.3 menu setting but I couldn’t find them today. Will post the link if I come up with it. Ah, just found it. Thanks everyone. Just checked the service menu and found out that it is a 1.34 version. What a difference a week makes when ordering. Mine was shipped from Lexington KY - One of the only reasons that I ordered from Amazon was because it was stated that B&H/Adorama only had the newer stocked models and I thought that I'd take a chance and order from Amazon with the hopes of getting the older version. Man what luck. The very first time I used the cam to video my son telling me about his birthday I noticed the banding in the dark areas in the background. - Oh well, I do love the camera, may get the GH2 sometime next year.
