F3: Just bought an F3, which is the best FZ to EF adapter?

Thank you the tip. I actually shot a lot with the pocket, so I already own a nice IR cut filter. I absolutely hated stacking ND/IR filters on that camera, maybe the worst thing about that camera.

Good to hear but you might want to test your IR Cut filter first before relying on it during a job. The F3's issue is far-red, not the green IR you can get with heavy ND filters. The Tiffen T1 was specifically designed for it (EX1,3 actually)

Hey Ben,

Good to hear that you got a F3! Been following you since your BMPCC skate video days:) Was just wondering how you find the F3 compared to the BMMCC? I have an F3 and a BMPCC and was thinking of getting a BMMCC. Also was thinking of getting an Ursa 4.6K, but the F3 is crazy good for the price and I prefer the image to the FS7 that I find thin.

Cheers,

Sam

Oh nice! I'm working on a few new skate projects right now.

I find the F3 to be a lot easier to use, the camera noise is lower, the color depth seems better as well. Weirdly, the color is pretty similar, much closer than canon to black magic, etc. I do think getting an initial clean looking grade is probably easier on the F3.

I have been using the C300 Mkii at work. I've gotten used to not needed ND filters, XLR audio, IR cut filters, etc. I found the battery life on the bmmcc to not be so great. I think they really messed up by not making a pocket v2 with 60p and less moire or IR pollution. I think I might buy a used pocket to go with the F3, maybe run a 12-35mm 2.8 lumix so I can grab shots when I don't have enough time to setup the F3.

I sold my BMMCC, metabones adapter and small HD 502 to buy the F3. I am really happy with the F3 and find it to be a much more well rounded camera. I like what I see out of the F3, I have also seen really nice FS7 footage as well, but the appeal isn't there for me right now. I don't need 4k and I have access to an FS700/7Q if I need extreme slow motion. I don't mind the weight or the size, as long as I can grab the camera and go. I hate worrying about a million little batteries and cables.

I also would love to be able to use the sigma 18-35 on a C300 if I needed it. I use the Canon 8-15 for some sports stuff, there's really no option that has the width of that lens, besides of the Rokinon fisheyes which are not as wide and lower quality glass.

Is very easy to use any Nikon F mount lens on a Canon EF mount, just use a simple adapter that won't really cost you anything.

Thus like others have said, I propose you just get Nikon F mount lenses :)

I actually went with the optitek and I love it. The battery life seems to be no different than with manual lenses. I don't mind the f stop on the outside, either.

I've been using Canon C300 LUTs just for in timeline stuff and I am happy with the results.

These are all Sigma 18-35, with except to the Canon 8-15 fisheye shot. I am very impressed by the lack of noise with this sensor. The last Sony I used extensively was the Sony FS700/7Q.

Hi Ben, I know its a few years on, but are you still using your F3. I pulled mine out the closet the other day and just love the images. I want to use my Canon lenses also, but it seems like the Optitek is the only way to go. How much did you pay for yours? I'm a bit wary of paying for an accessory that is 3x the cost of the value of the camera today.

X3 the cost of a used F3? I think F3 cameras still hold a price of $1,300 with the S Log (paid) installed. You can get a used Optitek adapter for around $300 maybe less if you're lucky, they do pop up on eBay.
They are the best adapter for the F3.
