Just A Thought for Jarred or Barry..

Hey Guys,

There's so many people on this site (myself included) who have a dvx, love to shoot, but don't really like to write or don't consider script writing our forte. We end up shooting little things we think look cool, some of us end up posting foilage footage, and others create little clips to test form and technique. I wonder how this forum experience might benefit from a permanent section (other than the script discussion) where writers can post short scripts, dialogue exchanges, story ideas..or maybe where dvx owners who are pining to shoot a little clip for fun can post and hook up with a writer who might have some really short idea they might want to see filmed. This way, instead of people posting screen grabs and footage from test shoots and things they did in 4 minutes asking if it 'looks like film', they could be posting actual short films that have a plot and some solid dialogue and interesting characters. I'm just wondering, aside from the DVX-Fest contests, if there's a more permanent way to foster writer/director/cinematographer collaborations on this forum, no matter how short the concept. As much as I love the all too common 'i was bored, don't use my dvx enough, so i figured i'd shoot some leaves' posts, I think some members of this forum could benefit from furthering their directing and production skills instead of just trying to achieve the most filmic image possible.

just a thought :engel017:

Now you're talkin' c.r. -- I've got 3 completed feature film scripts... and I decided to learn about filmmaking by shooting one of them (been almost a year now, and I'm almost finished)... anyways, I would love to hook up with someone that can shoot these with the level of excellence that I have seen on this sight...

That'd be pretty great actually. I really like writing, and the movies i've made that i wrote have gotten fairly good response. I just can't stand the way they look, so if anyone would be willing or wanting to shoot a script of mine, that'd be awesome

Yeah I think it would be interesting also if several people did their own interpretations of one script. We would be able to compare the films and study the differences in various filmmaking styles.

That was two festivals ago. (Or was it three?)

i'm up for that, get a team of players we're bound to make something great! profit sharing when one team makes it get the best all around the country we all pitch in the money to make our own production co. we use in house only. this could be done! of course contracts to secure no one runs away when they hit the big one

That's a great idea.
Even if it's been done before (as David pointed out), I see no reason not to make it an ongoing thing.
In fact, that's a common excercise in film school (as anyone who's ever read the 'Nick and Tony' script knows).

In fact, it could become like a little DVXUser film school, not only creating short films, but also doing excercises like the one Kevin suggested above.

Bring it on.

Great idea.

People wanting to learn/expand different aspects of the Cinema experience (i.e. Sound Design) would also have a chance to address them for positive critiquing. People could learn a lot.

Bravo!

If anyone has scripts they want to flog--post a link in the screenwriting forum--that's really the best place. I'm not sure we need a whole separate forum, but if there was enough interest we could always create a sub-forum. After SciFest, I think we'll take a break from genre filmmaking and head somewhere else. One idea, I've mentioned before is having a two part DVXFest. Part I would be a short script competition and Part II would be a filmmaking competition using the winning script(s). Maybe we could pick the top two or three scripts and either randomly assign them to filmmakers or let filmmakers pick one to shoot.

that would be beyond cool. I don't think I'd be able to produce a winning script or anything, but it'd be great to finally have the ability to be included in one of the contests.

Oh, how it sucks to not have a D/HVX.... But I'm working (For the first time in my life :)) to fix that plight real quick. :D
