Just a Comparison Question

I've been looking at this FX-1/G-35 footage a lot recently:

I know this is probably a bad question, but would I be able to attain pretty much the same picture quality/ color tones with an HVX (equipped with the same materials used for that shoot, of course)? Every piece of footage I see with the DVX on that same site (also with the G-35) seems way darker and grainier and stuff, but I'm starting to think that's just lighting and the lack of HD attributes. Just wanted to make sure I'm not totally wrong, so I wanted to ask you guys.

thanks.

No, my fellow dvxuser.com member, it's not a bad question but an interesting question under a filmmaker's POV.

Spencer,

As far the difference between the DVX and the FX1 just looking at the first two DVX samples Monterey and Desecration, I would say you are correct in assuming its lighting and whatever improvement the HDV format lends. Although taking that into consideration i think the DVX/G35 really holds its own against the FX1 (especially in certain shots of the desecration demo).

As far as the HVX comparing to the FX1 i'm sure I'm not the only one who's hoping there will be no comparison. This is all conjecture and speculation since we have not seen any footage from the camera yet. However the DVCPro HD format should provide a much higher quality image with the G35 than that of the FX1's compressed HDV format with G35.

So while we can not say with 100 percent certainty I'm gonna put my money on HVX to win.

awesome. I figured as much, but I just wanted to be sure.

I was really surprised with the quality of the Videoclub thing though. It looked really really good. Some shots made it look a lot like really big budget hollywood comedies-meaning it looked professional.

Yeah, Water is really good too. I watched that on the boards a while back, and it's awesome. I just couldn't really used that as comparison because of all the color correction and tone it's meant to have. The first couple of movies I make will definately not feature that (I really wanna practice before putting it in films) level of color correction-it'll probably be a closer format to the Videoclub thing. So, I was obviously curious as to how the HVX would hold up with that stuff. Stellar, I'm sure, is the answer.
