Jumping playback

I am not able to view 720p clips without them jurking, jumping or stopping. I am wondering if I need more RAM? Or is there another solution?

FCP 5.1.4
OS 10.4.9
MAC Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5
512 MB DDR SDRAM
160 GB HD/44 GB available
Lacie 160 GB/109 GB available

Anyone else experienced this? Thanks.
 
I just gave an old unit like yours to a good friend. Yes, you will need a MINIMUM OF 2GB RAM, FOR SURE! Get more if you can afford it.

I know Apple say minimum of 2 for HD work, but I found going to 4 to REALLY improve things a lot. But you'll get good performance out of 2, just the same.
