GH2 Juicedlink RM333 vs. Beachtek DXA-SLR PRO for Direct Audio to GH2

That's too much money for a product that is not Class A. Clean gain is a euphemism for cheap gain, BTW.

Just did some tests with the JucedLink Riggy vs. my Wendt X2 field mixer, which costs more than 3 times as much - they are absolute in the same league, regarding signal quality.

Just saying....

And maybe, just maybe, the audio on the GH3 will allow a simpler setup without a separate preamp mixer to hassle with

I highly doubt that the GH3 will have professional quality pre-amps ( even my HMC-150 camera does not have what I would consider "professional" grade pre-amps ), so if you want high quality audio you are going to have to use a good external pre-amp or a good wireless set-up like the Sennheiser G3 UHF system.

The audio capabilities of every camcorder I've used in the past two years (canon xf, Sony fs and xdcam) have all produced exemplary results. I can't speak for low end units like hmc40s but there are reasons they are low end and I'm betting one reason is crappy audio recording hardware. To say the op should go dual system REGARDLESS of the camera is a bit much. I have nowhere the experience as Heartfelt, but I know from my own experience working on tight deadlines that the drawbacks of dual recording far outweigh the benefits.

I use the Beachtek Pro that you mention and have NEVER had a problem. Good clean sound, good mount fit on the bottom of the GH3, so it sits really nice. VU meter is good as are the features for phantom, line and AGC disable. I have not used the juicedlink, so cant compare. One thing I would say about Zoom and Tascam external recorders is that they are a pain to use. OK, the sound may be cleaner, but using them on the fly, switching on and off, mounting, synching...forget it, they are a hassle.

I have the JuicedLink RM333 and can say that it is a very good quality devise (all metal) and a lot smaller in person than I had originally thought. (which is a good thing)
It works extremely well, and the third XLR microphone input is a real plus! I can't say anything about the Azden model other than it looks like a juiced link copy, and my experience
with Azden products has been questionable at best. (mainly pertaining to build quality, etc)

I emailed Robert who was listed at the beginning of this email. He was very helpful. Here is his email:

OK. Great camera! Since it already has meters and headphones, and you don't need a preamplifier which has those features. So, you can use one of the Riggy-Micro models (RM333/RM222/RM202) which will be smaller, lighter, and more power efficient since it does not have those unnecessary features.

Also, compared to the product you pointed out, the Riggy-Micro has some other sweet features, such as the audio output bracketing (for camera overload protection), selective power down (to extend battery life), plus its 'Riggy' (so you can use one of the riggy brackets like either the RB401 or RB200 to take advantage of the valuable real estate next to your camera, for mounting accessories like microphones and wireless receivers).

Honestly, with a DSLR, I really like the Riggy-Micro, because it is so small and light that I can use the RB200 top mounting kit. I really like having the preamplifier mounted on top of my camera, so I can cradle the DSLR in my left hand and use my fingers to operate the lens focus and zoom (like you're supposed to within a DSLR run and gun style).
