JuicedLink is going to show off new "Little DARling" Distributed Audio Recorder

Lets say you're doing a run and gun with 5+ actors. You put one on each actor and you boom the shots. You got 3 major backups now without frequency issues. I think this is hugely beneficial device for the independent. I wish Juicedlink would do a comparison between the little DAR and the Tascam Dr10cs to hear preamp quality.

My Problem with the Little DARling is still the lack of real meters and the Tascam DR-10CS I still can;t figure out why it is not available for sale in the US.

I have good success with the tascam DR-10CS so far. I actually just ordered a second one. I still wish there were afordable wireless transmitters with recording built-in, but until then I guess using these little things are the next best thing. They can be purchased and shipped to the USA at least

Rumor is Zaxcom doesn't like the pass through on the Tascams because it infringes on their overpriced wireless recorder. Juiced link gets around this by having no pass through and limits the amount of time the headphone jack allows listening so you don't pass through the headphone jack I assume.

My problem with the juicedlinks are the convoluted way you have to press buttons to get going and having to recopy files every time to a newly formatted card as well as formatting the card only on a computer. Also not being able to adjust the safety track to something more up db instead of the locked -16db. The Tascams make life much easier but I'm still curious about which has the quietest preamps.

If anyone is interested since the Brexit madness the pound has dropped considerably to the dollar. I picked up a bunch of Tascam dr10's from the UK for $185 each.

I bought from Juno also. As mentioned above, they recently dropped to $185. Shipping is cheap considering how far they travel

Just wondering if people are using these with wireless transmitters? On their own with a lav? With an XLR cable to handheld or shotgun mic or a feed from an audio board?

For those using with a wireless, is it troublesome to strap to things onto someone instead of just one?

I'm using it with just a lav. Dual recording with second at -6db saves any sudden loud sounds. If you want to go handheld with a mic and if you have a battery powered mic the similar Tascam DR 10x is for that purpose and can be bought in the U.S. as its not part of the copyright issue.

As mentioned, the one with XLR is different.

Concerning the tascam dr 10cs...Since it adds bulk using the recorder and wireless lav, for weddings I have just been using the tascam directly with a lav into it, skipping the transmitter. I put that in the grooms pocket and then wireless mic the pastor. So where I used to use two wireless lavs, now I use 1 wireless sennheiser and 1 wired tascam.

For other situations where I need redundancy or I don't have enough wireless lavs I again just use the tascam with lav plugged in.
Its really not that big, piggy backed to a transmitter but it does make a difference.
I am looking forward to someone offering an affordable wireless system in the future with built-in recording, but until then I am grateful to have these handy small recorders. They make life easier!
