Hey Sony Shooters,

As most of you know, we have had long discussions here and elsewhere about some of the goofiness(yep, I know them technical terms) of the FS7. Stuff like no WFM in some situations and no ProRes without the back. Some have said this was likely due to less horsepower in the FS7 compared to that available in the F5. And that notalentwannabe bottomfeeder(me) said that processing power is cheap and Sony should not have scrimped on that.

Well my friends and Doug;-), Juan said at NAB that the processing is the same as the F5. The context in which he says it leads one to belieave the processing power is the same, but I suppose there is some wiggle room.

Listen carefully at the beginning. Overall, he does a real good job of explaining the benifits of the FS7. Much better than that launch interview.

Hope you folks have a good week,
Robert

He says it has the same image sensor, the same processor, as the F5. By processor I would expect he's referring to an A/D convertor and DSP (Digital Signal Processor). Those components are only the front of the image pipeline. Things like the waveform are added towards the end of the image pipeline, and the processing power available for those could easily be different.

I think he says, "processing", but I will listen again. Anyway, you may be correct but since we have not seen a tear down or schematic we don't really know the internal pipeline.

"I think there's many reasons to pay attention to this camera. This camera has at it's core the same technology that's on the F5 camera, so the same image sensor and the same processor."

The pipeline is almost certainly different in at least some regards. To exactly what extent, it's hard to say without having both cameras side by side and descontructing them to look at chipsets.
