I just got back from NAB 2012. I was covering the show for Streaming Media Producer and wanted to share a link to my first interview, an in-depth interview with Sony's Juan Martinez on the Sony NEX-FS700.

Streaming Media Producer Sony FS700 Interview

Key topics include:
• Differences between the FS700 and the FS100 model released last year to
• Lens mounts and adapters (including the new LA-EA2)
• Continuous focus
• Super slo-mo
• The FS700's multifunction handle
• Iris control
• Enhancements to the Super 35mm-size sensor to enable 4K capability
• Low-light performance
• image sharpness and detail
• HD/SDI output

Juan is a great guy, I just met him for the first time at nab. I thought he blew me off for our first meeting but it turned out I dialed his office not his cell !! (2 hrs sleep can do that stuff). Anyway in talk with a couple guys who know our industry inside out- Juan is held in high esteem as someone truly committed to improving product- and fighting for us on the inside. I can tell you straight up - he reaches out to anyone he thinks has a good idea- and he has a few himself.

Thanks ka00. I didn't even realize that he was that close to knocking it off at the time but it probably wouldn't have gone too far as it had a security cord on it.

Caleb - it was great to meet you at the Sony booth just before we shot the interview with Juan. Juan was very nice to work with he is the guy who knows the most about that product line so I made sure it was him who I spoke with.

Even though he just re-hashed what we all know already, the video just got me even more excited for the FS-100. That camera is going to Rock!

Regarding the rocker switch, couldn't that just be an electronic zoom that has nothing to do with the lens zooming in and out, just the camera electronically going in and out of a 4K image while recording a 1080P video, as you could do in post (maintaining the 1080P format) ?

Thanks Shawn, excellent interview. It really helped inform and qualify what I thought I knew already. Did you notice any change to the LCD or how it articulates compared to the FS100?

@gene_can_sing Thanks for the comment. I think you meant you were excited about the FS-700, btw. Can't say I agree with the re-hashing comment. Don't get me wrong as I don't take any offense at all but I got Juan to talk about a few things that I have never heard any comments on before. One of my concerns going in with the FS100 is that upping the resolution to 4K on the same sensor would result in higher noise unless Sony improved on that technology, which Juan explained that they did.

@Kraut69 I think what he said on camera and off camera (our light died, which is what there is a cut after the question was asked) and he pretty much indicated that there would be an e-mount zoom lens controlled by the zoom rocker in the future.

@djangosan Thanks for the feedback. I was thrilled that I was able to ask all the questions of Juan that I have been asking myself but not getting answers to. I did not notice any differences in the screen articulation but really didn't handle the camera much.

Thanks Shawn. Nice interview like your blog where I find out many useful things about fs100 . I know you have some sony alpha lens. It could be great to read some review how they work with LA-EA2 now .
Thanks so much.

I liked Shawn's interview. It was the first time I saw Juan talk about the FS-700. I appreciated the FS-700 more after watching it. It was good PR for Sony.

Juan did the big presentation talk for the FS-100 when it was first released, did he ever to the same for the FS-700?
