John Lyons' Hunting Camp DVD

Hi John
Received "The Hunting Camp " a few weeks ago . Well done .
I can see Trevor (Steve) on the big screen . I can't really pinpoint why , he just left that kind of impression on me . Loved the plot and the scenery. really nice to see what the DVX can do .And you only used 1 Mic, HMMM ..excellent John ........Ian T
Oh yes the sound track (CD) is very good , at least for me anyway .

Thank you ellegrand and arielman for your words! Somehow I missed your posts...

ellegrand, I always wanted to be an actor when I was youngER, but you know, pretty tough to run camera, direct, and act. he he... thanks for that though.

arielman, yep just used a single AT835b mic! sometimes boomed, sometimes on the camera. I really appreciate your comments on the soundtrack too, the bands worked very hard as well on their material.

4th and 5th film festivals...

4th and 5th film festivals...

If anyone is in the Great Lakes-area come out to the Great Lakes Film Festival in Erie, PA next week: Sept 22-25. Both Hunting Camp and BOGO (Director's Cut) have made the fest, are playing Opening Night, and HC has been nominated for "Best of the Fest"!

Also for those in the Cleveland-area, that same weekend Hunting Camp will be playing in the Twisted Spine Micro Film Festival (just found out) on September 25th!

Thanks everyone for your support, all recent orders went out before the weekend...

I’ve had my DVD for a while. One of the musts I evacuated with from Katrina. Watched it two or three times now and wanted to get this review out for this impressive film by a this talented emerging filmmaker:

What an accomplishment, John, you create a formidable sense of suspense as the story builds to the final conclusion. This is accomplished via a fantastic score and not being afraid to linger on actors as they deliberate internally, vacillate and ultimately decide to act.

The featurette has a pro feel in general and the DVD and all materials are super nice! Looks like you have the business side of this down as well as the artistic and I hope to learn a lot from you in both regards.

The biggest growth area I see for you as an emerging filmmaker is refining the ability to make subordinate what is not important to your story or theme and developing the ability to further emphasize that which is. Right now I feel like everything is emphasized / important / precious in all areas of production: performance, cinematography, editing, and script/structure. This can make it hard for the viewer to follow at times, make them feel less assured that answers will be coming when they are intentionally held for dramatic purposes, and lessen the impact of what is at the heart of your story. It’s just important to “throw away” (treat insignificantly) the unimportant things as it is to showcase the important.

You have a lot to offer as a filmmaker and I look forward enthusiastically to your next film.

Thanks man,

Jack

Makes me want to run a "Rescued from Hurricane Katrina" newsstory on my website, really cool that you saved "Hunting Camp" instead of grabbing your underwear!

fantastic score
All Andi Wondersound on that one, I'm gonna keep that dood around as long as I can! BTW - If you have found any of the Easter Eggs on the DVD yet Andi stars in "The Conquering of Mount Kilbourne" (if you haven't, let me know). We made that short the first day I had the DVX. We plan on filming a sequel to it soon to hide on a future disc!

Thanks man. All art designing and web design by Dorota Swies and we had the sets manufactured by Custom Flix, in case you want to know. I authored the DVD menus and whatnot.

You are so right! Definitely something I need to work on and believe me I will take your list with me physically and mentally now and try and improve on everything you mentioned. Thanks man for taking the time to write your thoughts on the movie! It has been and will be a significant help.

Hunting Camp showed at 2 film festivals this past weekend (nominated for "Best of the Fest" at one, didn't win) and BOGO: Director's Cut showed at one as well. At Opening Night of the Great Lakes Film Fest some of the killer bands from the film's soundtrack played after the movies ended. It was an amazing performance (Trevor and Karen, two of the stars of both films played as well, pic above), anyhow if you want to check out some of those pics CLICK HERE .

Thanks for the recent orders as well guys, they are shipping today, and remember soon this 2-disc set is going to be gone, we are under 75 left as of this week!

I looked at your picks. LEATHER PANTS -- you indie poser, LOL.

Just joking. I lost 50 pounds 3 years ago (gained it back), was managing personnel for Cirque du Soliel, and we were short in retail concesions so I had to go scramble and get a pair of black pants. Well the only black pants at the Old Navy near the site were ... pleather. I put on a pair of 32" for a lark ... and they fit ... and they looked good. So i rocked the Cirque popcorn counter with my pleather black pants. No one made me wear them after that ... but I did.

There were lots of hot chicks in those . Is Dorota you wife. She's ExHottic!

I look like Greg but shorter.

You should write a Russian peasant part for that Wondersound guy.

My cat's breathe smells like cat food.

Damn Hunting Camp is all over the place.

less than 60 sets left!

less than 60 sets left!

I just wanted to thank each of you for your support of my film "Hunting Camp" over the past few months and let you know that after three back-to-back film festivals in the last couple weeks (and getting copies in the hands of everyone from Lloyd Kaufman to John Hancock) we are now down to only about sixty (60) 2-disc DVD/CD sets remaining!

If you were waiting to get one this will be your last opportunity. Several of you have said to me "I gotta get one of those one of these days" so instead of PMing you all I thought I would just throw up a post here as well as in the Cafe...

We've had a great run, received amazing feedback/critiques from the festivals and those of you that posted your comments on the thread here, but now I'm antsy to move on and start something new, so when these are gone it will be gone for good as I won't be placing another order at the factory.

PURCHASE through DVXUser.com

OK, so thanks again everyone, thanks Jarred, and have a good week!

I figured I would cross-post here since this is the 'official thread'.

OK, got the DVD today, just now finished watching it.

The first thing I need to say is: Wow. Let me rephrase that. Holy ****ing Wow.

Great film. Really interesting, beautiful. Just a great solid project. I enjoyed the script, the turns, even the acting. It was shot very nicely, great camera work and looked more like film than anything else I think I have seen.

Honestly, and true, this is just the first viewing, but I would say that this easily goes into the top 10 of all short films I have seen. Just an overall great job and a fantastic movie.

The only thing I can say is that your trailer doesn't do the film justice. I bought this to support another DVXUser, but if I had known what it was, I would have easily paid double.

Really, honestly and truly a great great picture. Congrats! You really give people a lot to strive for.

I'm blown away so I'm talking in circles here. I was absolutely floored. Great movie.

Anyone considering this, really must purchase it. Your budget amazes me. This is one of the most professional looking pieces I have seen.

I agree with the comments maybe about treating the insignificant pieces as just as important, but from the first viewing impression, I am still floored.

I said it above, I will say it again: In my top 10 list of short films I have seen. GREAT WORK

Don't know how I missed this post! Yes, those are real leather pants. We had them custom made in Poland last time I was over there, they were a gift from mom-in-law believe it or not. They kick ass! As for you JDan, hell yeah, sport the pleathers! Nice story. :cheesy:

Hot chicks, yes I'm a VERY lucky guy! Dorota is my wife and she is THE designer at Lyons Den Productions (web, HC dvd set artwork, etc etc). Which reminds me I need to PM you back on something, man I suck!

Andi Wondersound plays a mountain climber named Ronnie in "The Conquering of Mt. Kilburn" and "The Curse of Mt. Kilburn" which we are filming for one day next month! he he. If you don't know what Mt. Kilburn is you haven't found that Easter Egg yet in the HC DVD menus.

Hey man,

Just finished Hunting Camp! Job well done!!

The photography is fantastic and it's nice to see some restraint and buildup in the story.

You rock...
