John from Cincinnati

Deadwood was amazing. John isn't so much amazing as it is a poor homage to the series that deserved another season.

Six Feet kept me interested until the "Billy string" went on for too too too too too too long. They should have killed that show after three seasons like they did Deadwood. Knowing when to say when can be the best thing for a show. When a principal character is dead at the top of season three and comes back when it suits the writers is a Dallas-caliber device and that was the beginning of the end for me.

Lame.

The fact that you say CSI is better then Six Feet just proves to me your taste in shows, I hate CSI and the the rest of those crappy shows where it's alwasy the same ****. let's solve the mystery a murder same **** with every episode. Six feet was a very non linear show, with characters that had emotion and problems, So does JFC it's about what would really happen if something supernatural would happen in this world, none of that bullshit lets save the world crap that seems to be so overdone in regular shows. It's about character studies not re-done plot lines that every other show seems to re-make with a small change. If you levitaded off the ground what would you do? would you become a superhero and save the world from impeding doom or would you still be that guy you were who still masturbates to online pornography like the rest of us? see that's what good stories are stories where the characters seem real and fU#ked up, like it really is in real life. and john and Six Feet had the balls to do that people just seem to put them down because they dont understand what good writing is.

isnt that we try to do as filmmakers make movies and shows, that show the most realistic characters we can and not some over the top superhero, such as Robert Langdon rich harvard professor who already happens to know everything about the mystery he's trying to solve (DaVinci Code). havent we overcome those days of Van dam and seagal where the characters are just so fake and un-emotional. I thought we have overcome those crappy days, i thought we were becoming a new wave intelectual filmmakers who understood what emotion was. I just have one question to ask all of you. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU COULD LEVITATE OFF THE GROUND FOR A FEW FEET? i want honest answers reall non of that crap, I will join the justice league of america or go buy a spandex suit and stop bank robberies.

Let's tone it down a notch. There's nothing wrong with people enjoying different kinds of shows and it doesn't make the general public "stupid" if they don't like the same shows as you. Different strokes for different folks.

Example: I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is the most brilliant show ever created. But I have friends, who are MUCH smarter than me, who don't like Curb at all. They would rather watch "CSI" or "Lost". But that's fine. I enjoy Curb and I don't need to convince the world why it's the best "to me".

That's your opinion. But, don't forget, everyday in the "real and emotional" world, police are solving crimes, lawyers are in court, and doctors are saving lives. I sure am glad they don't find their jobs boring with every episode.

Law & Order is a great show. A show where they solve mysteries and "shi*" week-in and week-out. I consider it one of the most intelligent shows on TV. [sarcasm] But, really, it's amazing it's stayed on the air for more than 10 years when every single episode is the same "shi*". [/sarcasm] Shows like CSI are reliable. It's the same reason why people goto the same restaurants all the time. Because they know they can get what they want and how they want it.

Besides, if you had it your way, and every TV show was as "real" and emotionally brilliant as John From or Six Feet then every show on TV would be the same. Yawn. And after a while "real and emotional TV" would become boring and crappy too. Then you'd be complaining about how crappy all the "real emotion TV" shows are and how you wish they could write more shows like the old reliable "CSI" of yester-year.

Now you're really being desperate. But, ok, I'll bite.

I would take the gold medal in the Olympics hurdling competitions.

PT...I was just about to say pretty much exactly what you just said. So, i'll say it by echoing your sentiments with a "Ditto".

PS Thanks for saving me the time.

That statement can be reversed sure the world likes the same crap over and over again, but just because somethings different and doesnt follow basic outline of what is considered acceptable story telling deosnt make it it bad or horrible. just because I like going to denny's deosnt mean I wont try a new restaurant that deosnt serve anything like Denny's

What's wrong with the question, Honestly I mean can you answer it? I didnt think it was desperate? I honestly find it more intresting when an ordinary person is put in an unordinary situation.

I am a DeadWood boy myself.... Nothing is gonna top that, though John is pretty awesome.
I was a big fan of Deadwood, and I am hooked on JFC, too. Does anyone else enjoy the overlap of Deadwood characters in JFC?

Freddy = Charlie Utter
Vietnam Joe = Elsworth
Dr. Smith = Francis Wolcott & Jack McCall
John = Morgan Earp

I also like how Milch brings back 80's sitcom stars on both shows, like Gerald McRaney (George Hearst on Deadwood) of Major Dad, and now Howard Hessman (WKRP and Head of the Class) on JFC. And let's not forget Al Bundy, who is terrific on JFC.

My comment was directed at your OVER USE OF CAPS. And how that's usually the sign of someone who is being DESPERATE to make a point.

And I DID answer your question. Was it not the answer you wanted? Was it not real or emotional enough? Should I have quoted Nietzsche or something?

How is levitating a few feet off the ground going to stop a bank robber? Wouldn't the bank robber just need to adjust his aim a bit to shoot you?

If I could levitate off the ground for a few feet I would help a cat out of a tree and dunk a basketball on a 10 foot goal. I've dunked on a 8ft goal but never on a 10 ft goal, so this levitation thing would be awesome.

I want to change my answer. I want to do the slam dunk thing too. That would be cool.

Oh, and I would visit a lot of Pharmacies and speak to the Pharmacists at eye-level, for once. Pharmacists think they're such big shots, with their offices a few feet higher than everyone else. I'll show THEM!!

I hope you are not basing your love for JFC on this? I mean, come on. Since the dawn of storytelling ordinary people are put into extraordinary situations. Just go back 50 years on television...Mr. Ed/man with talking horse...40 years...Flying nun/i think the name speaks for itself....30 years The Bionic Man and Woman...20 years...The greatest American Hero etc.

You can say these shows are cheesy. That may be but not for the times. Not for the first wave of people who first fell in love with them.

Yes, the premise has to be good and yes the storytelling has to be great. So, as said before, it boils down to different strokes for different folks.

just because I like going to denny's deosnt mean I wont try a new restaurant that deosnt serve anything like Denny's

Now wait a minute.....you're poo-pooing what I guess could be classified as "mainstream" entertainment, but you're an afficianado of Denny's????? By the same token, I could question your culinary tastes. Don't they have any good Indian or Thai restaurants in your neck of the woods? :D

Now to answer your query, I'd still be that guy who masterbates to online superheroes....wait, what was the question again? I lost my train of thought.

...This season is pure crap... though I'm still watching. It's like CSI: Miami. Once it's on, it's like watching two trains smashing into each other in a hyper-saturated gore-fest of Super35mm splendor.

e

Here I go quoting myself again...

I never said I liked CSI: Miami. I stated that watching the current, foundering, grasping at straws season of "West Side versus East Side" Big Love was like watching CSI. Once it is on, it's hard to turn off. The show doesn't stand on its past merits, but somehow still draws you in.

In the case of CSI, it serves as a visually titillating curiosity to me - nothing more. I'll argue all day long that it is one of the best looking shows on network. I don't know how you brought self-love into it, but I assure you that I have no David Caruso infatuation.

My taste in shows runs the gamut, but one rule holds true no matter what the show is - know when to stop. Even well-written network shows like West Wing and 24 wear themselves out and eventually jump.

It's too bad Sorkin couldn't just shut the whole contrived thing down when season finale shootings and kidnappings became the order of the day. Regardless of how much I like Sutherland, I'm sick to death of the "what nuclear or biological threat will Jack Bauer have to diffuse this season?" questions.

24 is good, but would have been amazing if they'd stopped after two seasons.
