John from Cincinnati

I think the general public is stupid and they wont get this show. So far I love it anyone else out there thinks it's probably the best show HBO's ever had? Don't get me wrong six feet under was my favorite show of all time but then I saw John from Cincinnati.

It's not my favorite HBO show, but this show effin rocks, i love it and everything about it.
Ed Oneil is amazing in it, its great to see him back

I'm stupid. :) I don't get it. I watched maybe 15 minutes and said yeah boring. I didn't even like the color palette of the show. Entourage, Dexter, and Rome. Now you are talking TV worth paying for.

It's weird. I'm not really a fan of Milch's style low-key style. His shows feel more like plays to me in a lot of ways (they hardly ever have music for example). To me they always seem slow even when there is a lot going on on screen. But even though I don't dig the style I always find myself getting sucked in anyway. He knows how to put together a compelling narrative and you got to respect that.

I hope John From Cincinnati stays on the air. After Entourage and the Flight of the Conchords miniseries its my favorite HBO production right now.

As far as the best series HBO has ever produced, The Larry Sanders Show is always going to be my favorite production of theirs. There was nothing interesting about the visuals but everyhing else in that show was genius.

I am a DeadWood boy myself.... Nothing is gonna top that, though John is pretty awesome.

you know it's funny because I'm not a huge deadwood fan, the shows good I've seen it but it doesnt seem that great to me. John on the other hand is awsome...maybe it's just me.

John is a really contrived Deadwood rip-off as far as I'm concerned. The Deadwood-esque Milch writing style just doesn't fit into the San Diego environment. It's totally jarring when the full-on addict, Butchie, waxes abstract in Milch's sing-song dialogue.

Like Deadwood, I find myself listening intently for the content, but it just isn't fun the way it was a couple of years ago, where it seemed like an accurate rendering of the spoken word during the Victorian age.

Having been raised in Orange County during the 1970s, I consider myself a bit of a dialect buff in SoCal speak, and I'll tell you that no one speaks John from Cincinatti speak.

That, and the story is lame. At least so far. Hopefully this show will go away.

Sopranos, Entourage, Deadwood, Curb, Conchords, Extras... all brilliant. Even Mind of the Married Man was better than this lump.

I have to disagree, I think the show is amazing and extremly entertaining. I noticed you didnt mention Six Feet Under on that list what's with that?

Deadwood was amazing. John isn't so much amazing as it is a poor homage to the series that deserved another season.

Six Feet kept me interested until the "Billy string" went on for too too too too too too long. They should have killed that show after three seasons like they did Deadwood. Knowing when to say when can be the best thing for a show. When a principal character is dead at the top of season three and comes back when it suits the writers is a Dallas-caliber device and that was the beginning of the end for me.

Lame.

I should also say that Big Love has "jumped" this season... if you subscribe to the concept of "jumping". This season is pure crap... though I'm still watching. It's like CSI: Miami. Once it's on, it's like watching two trains smashing into each other in a hyper-saturated gore-fest of Super35mm splendor.

I thought this show totally sucked too. Bad writing/acting, although the shooting was nice.

Takes more than a good DP to sell me!

I've been hearing so many people rave about this show to me, so I've been trying really hard to get into it. I've missed a few episodes near the beginning, so I always seem to feel like I'm trying to catch up. I'll probably try to go back and watch it from the pilot before judging it as a whole.

I have to say though, that I find myself bored through certain episodes. The pacing is pretty slow. Is it just me or does Rebecca De Mornay's character exist solely to be pissed about everyone and everything. Every scene is her crying or yelling.

Last night's episode was especially dragged out. We start with the son missing, Mitch returns, they look for the son, the episode ends. Woo hoo...riveting entertainment!

Huh???????? I've never been more interested. I think this season is pretty good.

I'd like to see more of that rival clan. Selma Green & her brother, what's that all about? There is something so visually unsettling about the shots inside their warehouse/compound. They've taken a room filled with she/males, vagrants, homeschooled children & mangy mutts and made them scarier than say...zombies or mobsters. I tip my hat to all parties responsible for coming up with that bizarro world.

PS-I bailed out on John from Cincinatti after episode two. I was hoping for more surfing, less wacky plotline & levitating cast members. Guess I should just watch Fuel TV.

Edit: Last night's Big Love sucked (8/6) Maybe you're right. :)

I personally think the show is garbadge. Everyone who loves the show claims this incredible interpretation of it that none of us "naysayers" tend to understand. Yet is prompted, not one person can explain what the show is truly about. The dialogue is obnoxious and the story is overly dramatic or vulgar at times simply to grip the attention of the viewer, usually because the filming is so dull and... common. An example of this is when the mom come up and john walk over and says to her "Remember when you came home high on acid and you caught butchie jacking off and you jacked him off?" That line was blatantly unnecessary and added simply to pull the audience back from their spacing out during boring dialogue and an over-hyped storyline with no possible conclusion.

I hope that HBO has the good sense to pull it from the air before it has the ability to damage their reputation any more than it already has.

feels forced, but then again I felt the same way about deadwood, which everyone toold me was "shakespearean" but really they just said "cocksucker" a lot.

But then again again, I thought the sopranos lost it after the first season...

John is alright. Agreed that Deadwood should've had another season. I really dug Carnivale, gorgeous cinematography and tension. Entourage keeps me subscribed to HBO now, but really Showtime has me hooked on Weeds and Dexter.
