Well, I'm shooting a series here in Cadiz -Andalucia, south of Spain- for the internet, with friends, amateur actors... so we are 3 people the crew... We wrote the script and I was in charge of directing, with a friend, and doing the photography, editing and CC myself. I went to NYC to visit my girlfriend -she's a makeup artist- and while having lunch we thought "what if we shoot something here in NYC?" series fans -via facebook, this is the 2nd season- are going to flip. It was a kind of joke for them. She did me the favour to act. So I wrote fast and prepared everything. Next day, we both took the subway to the different parts of the city. She is from there, so the production part was on her charge... I had my zoom h4n recorder, she is carrying it in all the shots walking... if not, hidden behind the laptop... etc...

I had the 7D and my Canon 28mm 1.8 and Canon 50mm 1.4. She took me to Columbia, the Village, Brooklyn promenade, central park... for the scenes inside the subway we waited till night and the last stop, since there wasn't any people there. We went home at night, exhausted after that day... and recorded the interior scenes with the lamps she has there. For the focusing... well, when you are used to do this no budget... your skills improve I suppose. The zacuto viewfinder is essential for me though!! Well when she walks in central park... 20 takes!!! Someone looking to the camera, the recorder could be seen in other ones, I did not focus well... finally we got it! I'm the man who delivers the envelope in the Brooklyn shot (we were she and me, so we had to prepare the shot and leave the cam recording on the tripod).

Next day I returned to Spain and edited the scene in 2 days, mixing sound and color correcting the footage, shot by shot.

Hope you like it!!

Looks very nice,i dont know why it doesnt have more comments. Its a bit sad, maybe people are more busy occupying technical info part of the DSLR forum, you could post it in HDSLR footage section too.
I think You crossed the line a couple of times tho,you could fix that in post by flipping.
It looks relly good ,a bit bit too shallow for my taste at times, maybe because of the photographic bokeh... but it looks very nice anyway.
Post it here:

Great job with this! The directing, editing, sound, cinemtography(especially the shot from 6:30-6:50...so gorgeous)...all good. I did get a bit confused once the story moved to Cadiz but I assumed that since this was a series I just am not up to date on who the characters are.

One tiny little nitpicky thing I did notice is in the park when she is talking to the french guy, when she packs up her laptop and walks away, their is a slight time break. What I mean is the french guy keeps talking without any break in time (or at least seemingly no break) but the shot goes from her at the table one second to literally 2 seconds later she is who knows where with everything packed up, which is physically impossible. It's honestly not that big of a deal and it could have even been a conscious style choice by you.

On the whole though, really great job. This is professional quality stuff.

This is really a great example of what can be done with a dslr and minimal crew/lighting and no permits. Congrats! I really liked the interior apartment scenes. You did a great job utilizing existing lights to create what I would have assumed would have been lit with a pro kit. Really nice.

You really got the production values and pacing down. The script, to me, provided a little too much exposition and, at times, sounded read-through. I think the edit itself can do a lot to hide this - the Ocean's movies do a great job of visually laying out, and covering, what is effectively a narration bed by the talent.

One more tiny observation (from a crusty VFX guy) is that your DOF gives away the Paris shot. The windows fall off, but the city-scape in the distance should get the same treatment in post. Blurrier, even.

I knew something felt weird with that shot, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Going back now it is definitely the DOF.
