Process - for me anyway

Process - for me anyway

Step 1: Put idea into script (4 1/2 pages) turned out to be too long:

Step 2: Storyboard - sketched this out on a drive back home to Butler, PA - GO STEELERS!

Step 3: Convince brother (Tim) to do shoot = 12 pack Budweiser. That's me. Okay - no "real" actors this year - c'mon this was a last minute shoot!

Step 4: Vegas + Magic bullet + Sony B/W:

Cool!

I thought the pacing could have been sped up a bit but I loved the shot with the scissors. There were a few pretty good shots in this actually.

Cheers,

Mike

Here is a review from BergVision:

Warning! SPOILERS!

WALGREENS?

Let this be a lesson to all who take too many prescription drugs!
You might end up going crazy and having a thing for pumpkins!
Or maybe it was just too much Viagra!

I can tell what you were going after, but I think the film was too serious to start out with to be funny by the end when we see he killed his pumpkin wife.

I would work on getting the editing tightened up, cleaning up the audio and and smoothing out the sound fx transitions. As well as trying to button down the story telling a bit.
I still don't understand what the guys issue was with Pumpkins??

REVIEW:
Argh! OK, so this is one of those films that irks me. Really good stuff and then that awful ending. I don't want to sound harsh, so let me review the first 99% of the film: AWESOME! The black and white looked great. Felt like a Twilight Zone episode. That's why I was hoping for a better ending. Sounds like you figured out the plot and the ending and then shot it. Probably no time, but after cutting it together I would have said to myself, "WHOA!", and then reshot a new ending.

Anyway, good stuff. Loved 99% of it.

FILMMAKER-TO-FILMMAKER:
Did you use a 35mm adapter? It looked like you had some sort of spot /barrell distortion going on.

LOTS of good stuff in this. The blinking pumpkin on the table. The shot through the scissors, the 60's-esque mind-altering VFX stuff.

I mean, basically, a guy walks up to his porch, goes inside his house, gets a phone call in the entryway and then kills his "wife" in the adjacent bedroom. Very simple layout. But what you did in the confines of that small space was brilliant. I credit that to your shot selection and editing. Very well done.

I just, damn. I just wish you had a better ending... for me anyway. You could definitely expand this out to a nice little short film. You just have to figure who or what his wife is.

Good job! I look forward to more films from you.:thumbsup:

I voted in your poll. Good idea to do a poll.

I actually said inside "WTF" and then Laughed Outloud. So a combination of both. It was funny. And I was actually pleased to see it was a pumpkin rather then some killing of another woman. lol

I did none of the poll's options, I just kind of sat there. Really I liked it, a lot, acting was pretty good for what I've scene, relatively well written and the cinematography was great.
SPOILERS

However I felt that as you built the suspense you when a little too far, I pretty much guessed the ending as soon as he hung up the phone. I like the fact that you made it seem like his wife was sick however the door 'shook' one too many times and I just got tipped off to the fact that he was actually the mentally ill one. Also I liked the murder of the pumpkin at the end but I wish it was something else like a pillow or a doll the pumpkin was a bit anti climatic for me.

Nope. Just the DVX plus Vegas & Magic Bullet. Thanks to Barry G's DVX book and the wealth of knowledge on dvxuser.com I tried my best to set up the shots to get depth of field with the DVX.

Here is one scissors shot:

Thank you for taking the time to watch my film and put together a review. I appreciate your feedback.
