"Range" is usually video range, except for Apple Component format and RGB-based formats like Animation. You want to use video range for the GH1.
I back up the original .mts files from my camera, and use the de-interlaced clips. I see no reason to keep the interlaced files if you already have both the .mts files and the de-interlaced files. You won't be editing with them and they aren't the originals.
Make sure to read the JES sticky thread (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=170717), and to use Reinterlace Chroma under both the input and project settings.
Let me know if you have any more questions about JES, I've been using it to great results.

Also, If you haven't been doing so already, make sure to back up the whole "PRIVATE" folder from the card. You need the additional files for FCP to recognize the .mts clips properly. If you copy the whole folder you can load it up just like it's a drive.

Thanks for the advice ,appreciate it. final questions: whats the reason for choosing the top fieled first(in) instead of progressive(in) in the input section. 2) when deinterlaced the file size significantly drops; can u explain why? 3) when I open finalcut and set the audio video setting before I use Log and Transfer,I noticed that in the capture preset there is no prores 422 it says HDV prores 422.Do I choose that anyway? Thanks again.

1. The 1080p24 footage is contained in a 1080i60 codec that runs top field first. It's as simple as that, the footage going into JES is interlaced and the dominant field is the top one.
2. The file size drops because you are basically throwing away the extra, unnecessary, info inside of the codec. Reducing from 60i to 24p.
3. Your capture preset doesn't matter. What does matter is the preference you choose in the log and transfer window. Click on the gear drop down at the top, choose preferences, and under the AVCHD Plugin setting pick your target format. I use ProRes 422 (LT).
