GH13 Jerky Motion with 100mbps max lat patch?

Hey folks. I'm wondering if I can get some feedback ont he motion in the clip linked below. It's shot with a hacked GH1 with the 100mbps max latitude patch. Nikon 50mm lens f1.8. Shutter speed 1/50. 24fps.

Does this motion look jerky/not smooth to anyone? Is it just me? I'm noticing it most on when the girl rocks back and forth about 12 seconds in.

The video seems to be private (unwatchable).
 
I don't know, it's always there and there is no fix for it. The depth of field is really shallow, so the bitrate is less than ideal, so that lower bitrate could be contributing to the strobing.

Well, it's only 100mbps in the most detailed scenes. in a shot with not very much detail, like a shallow dof shot, the bitrate can be like 18mbps. With such a low bitrate the strobbing is inevitable.

EDIT: There is no patch that will push the bitrate higher than this.

not really, the 100mbps patch is the best for 24p video on the gh1. this is a $400 camera. I always find myself wishing the quality was better, but in comparison to other $400 camcorders, nothing touches the gh1 in image quality. Now that I think about it, the strobing might not be the bitrate, and could just be the electronic shutter quality. The shutter on the gh2 is no better, so my guess is the strobe effect is the same. It's just something you have to deal with knowing that this is an extremely cheap tool that although has overall really good iq, it does have some faults.
 
Thanks leckel1996. That's a really good perspective. The GH1 was a lot cheaper than a 5DMII. For the price, its quite a video camera. I wonder if more expensive cameras like the 5DMII have similar motion issues. Anyhow. Thanks for your input.

The canon dslr's don't strobe to quite the extent the gh1 does, but it is there. Also keep in mind that you are shooting in 24p, and even 35mm film has some strobing going on.
 
Look in the hack section...a user called "rigs" has a GOP1 hack that might create a better look. It's unstable at low light, low iso, but properly lit, I hear it looks good. You could also try and change his GOP setting to 3 and that gives a bit more stability and might give you better motion as well. You'll need the fast Sandisk cards though.
 
It's partly caused by Long GOP format in GH1. GH2 has this one allegedly a lot better. One solution is to use the GOP-1 settings, they give 100% accurate progressive motion rendering. If one can make them work reliably, which I can not say at this point.
