Jerky HPX170P

I just bought an HPX170P and took some footage in a data center. Everytime I pan or dolly, the footage jerks, stutters, in FCP 6. I'm guessing it's a processor problem or drive issue? The footage is on a WD 2TB external, project on desktop. I shot in 720p30. It looks great in camera but having problems playing it. I made an H.264 movie and exported it to YouTube and it still stutters. Looks great when not moving, but I seem to like movement. Thanks for any help.

You're more than likely moving the camera too fast on your movements. Have you read Barry's HVX/ HPX Book? It is essential reading if you want to make the most of your camera. His first chapter addresses the strobing issue, and gives you tables on how long you should take for pans/tilts for them to record cleanly. I would also check your in camera settings, check your shutter as this can also cause juttery motion. The last thing I would suspect is your hard drive/ or processor, they won't cause playback issues on the final exported products. If you have a USB external drive you will notice slow and choppy playback from low read/write speeds, but it shouldn't affect an exported video to youtube. Also check your timeline frame rate, its possible (unlikely) that your clips are being played at a different framerate than they were recorded in.

Without seeing the footage or knowing your camera settings, I would say you are moving too fast and causing strobing in camera, or your shutter is too slow. Pick up Barry's book and spend an afternoon reading it cover to cover and never go to a shoot without it. P.S. the camera's LCD is crap, and will never give you a true playback of your real picture.

there are SOOOO many variables at play here.

the primary one would the be the newbie 24p shooter. trying to use his camera like he did at 60i and expecting the same result.
