Jens Pulver UFC Fighter Documentary Teasers

That's awesome! Do you live in Idaho? Will you be coming to Ohio for his March fight? I'm gonna send you a PM in a few.

PS: WAR JENS!!

First, huge congrats on getting clean, clear audio. Makes all the difference in the world in keeping a viewer's attention and selling the story and emotion.

Teaser 1 is much, much stronger than Teaser 2. Teaser 2 is ok, but Teaser 1 has a much stronger emotional punch. Excellent use of music, nice pacing too. Parts could use tightening up, but I know this is just your starting point. I wanted to see wider shots (it seemed like almost everything was a medium shot to close up), but overall I liked the shooting.

Good luck with this project. I'm a huge MMA fan and stories like this I think will help people see the human side to it. Most fighters aren't in a cage because they want to hurt someone--it's a sport, and it takes a huge amount of drive and dedication to get to a Jens Pulver level.

You have an enormous amount of emotion in these pieces already. If you had a full documentary done and I watched the first teaser, I would immediately watch the entire thing. I want to watch it right now and you've not even begun! Excellent work so far. I hope you get all the funding you need to finish this. Have you tried to contact the UFC about this?

Good work.

Michael

EDIT: If you get the funding for this, do you plan on shooting with the HVX bare, or throwing on a 35mm adapter? I ask because I think a piece like this would benefit from deep focus.

Butcher, thanks for the critique and the kind comments. Been talking with WEC, primarily just to get in the door at the fight.

I'm shooting on a borrowed HVX currently until I get some funding in the door, looking at several different options if, and when, that happens. In the meantime, just trying to get the footage I can as it happens. Don't want to miss the story unfolding.

Both teasers look amazing. The lighting for Jens interview is proper, especially the hair-lights or should I say side lights. Plus the footage will even be better with color correction. Butcher is spot on when he said "filled with emotion." Only constructive criticism I could give is that the interview content in both teasers but mainly teaser 1 will spoil the film. It is like the conclusion in the trailer. Bc the film is a doc and the story is still unfolding there is no real resolution for the drama in Jens life, "yet." But the teaser seems like it already told the entire story.

I disagree. When I watched it, the story arc will lie in whether he wins his next fight (in March) and will continue to fight to pull his brother and his mother through their past and give them hope. This has all the elements of a great tragedy, and you're immediately hoping it doesn't become one. Teaser 1 hooked me to the main character and now I want to know how his fight goes and whether he wins to fight another day.

Hey

Hey

All shot on HVX. No filters. Minimum color correction.

Currently getting this project up on it's feet, so I decided to shoot for a couple of days (with no crew, or budget) to put together some footage that (hopefully) would represent the scope/style/emotion of the film I am trying to make.

Thoughts?

Hi there! I know what you felt but that is just part of the game some times you win sometimes you loss

The Martial arts are based upon understanding, hard work and a total comprehension of skills. power training and the use of force are easy, but total comprehension of all of the skills of the martial arts is very difficult to achieve. To understand you must study all of natural movement in all living things. Naturally, you can understand the martial arts of others. You can study the timing and the weakness. Just knowing these two elements will give you the capacity to knock him down rather easily

The heart of the martial arts is in understanding techiques
To understand techniques you must learn that they contain a lot of condesed movement. This may look quite awkward. when you start to learn it you will find find that it is awkward start to learn it you will find that it is awkward to you. That is because a good technique includes quick changes, great variety and speed. It may be a system of reversals much like a concept of God and Devil. In the speed of events, which one is really in charge? Do they change places with lightning speed? The chinise believe so . To put the heart of the martial arts in your own heart and have it be part of you means total comprehension and the use of a free style. When you have that you will know that there are no limits.
