I have NEVER shot handheld till about a month an half ago, when I got the HVX200. I am trying to get used to it, and still even after tonight did not get the hang of it. I shot 8 gigss (110 clips) Came home and threw it on the timeline to "the poilce", so tell me what ya think.

The only clip you'll notice majorly is the one where I upped the White and Mids and blacks almost all the way up. It happned so fast that I did not get an on the fly shot, and I had to up on it post, I turned down the saturation in post on that clip to ease the eyes. Other than that little clip, NO CC.

Colours looked great from the camera.Where all those Police just for a drink + drive operation?Looked typically heavy handed to me...
 
NCJE: I dont understand your comment, so if this is off let me know. We saw that something was going down, and had to go through it, drove another 4 blocks RAN in grabbed the cam, so we can start filming. I also saw this as an op. to work on my handheld skills, or lack there of. Maybe you can explin your comment a little more to me.


Noonansboy: Thanks for the compliments. What does "in the elk of COPS" mean? There were about 50 cop cars on each side, and 50 cop cars on the other side. About 100 cops, from about 10 differnt cities, Jefferson County. They hold there quite a bit per year, and JeffCo is not the only Countty to hold this, They do this in the mountains for Speed traps, as well. I dont mind, cause I neither speed or drive after drinking.
 
I think Noonansboy was referring to the TV show Cops. But dang...100 cop cars, really? Where was this, I-70? Anyway, pretty cool video. And not drinking and driving is probably the most important day to day thing anyone can do for their own safety and the safety of others, so good message too.

64th and Ward area in Arvada. Also a couple cops told us they were holding 2 more that night, One in Golden Colorado and one in Lakewood. which is when you see them all driving together in a line they were going to Golden to set up for another one. Has anyone noticed the almost accident with the cops cars while they are driving ???:)
 
Wow that did look a little overkill. I would think just a couple cruisers would be enough to stop and check people. I hate to think that all these cops are being kept away from more serious crimes just for the sake of catching someone at a checkpoint. :p

This many cops brought back memories of the end sequence in blues brothers.
 
We drove through one of those with cream soda bottles in the back seat, you know, those glass ibc bottles.... man that was a PAIN.
 
Ya I can see how that would get you some issues.

So over all how do you think my settings were, and handheld, and composision.

BTW- beleive it or not, I have only seen maybe 2 cops shows :) A american 14+ year classic, but not my thing.

That's funny. Kind of like the guy here who was stopped with 200 pounds of weed in his trunk and he told the cop it was catnip. Now that would be one big phat happy cat there..
 
Prodigy!!!! Drunk drivers kill 20 000 people a year!!!! What are the "More" important crimes the police should be going after?

Your video was pretty good, but your handhelds are pretty shaky. Were you zoomed in on a lot of those shots? One good rule of thumb to try and follow when handheld is to use the camera for your moves instead of the lens, of course this isnt always possible, but shakiness is much harder to notice when you are fully wide.
 
ya I had to be all the way or half way zoomed in most of the time. so lets say 90%, I usually stay wide, because yes it is WAY less noticeable. thanks for the compliments. I was about 60 feet or 5 lanes, plus (2) 4 foot sidewalks. If you have seen the one cop that was pretty jerky, he had some tight perimeters when he was around, otherwise when he was not around. I was able to get the cop cars un-zoomed. Or when I was holding the camera WAY over my head to get somewhat of a perspective of how many cops were there.
 
were you using the LCD or viewfinder? I think I get much smoother shots when my big face face is pressed up against the cam and I'm looking in the finder. Personally the camera does get friggin' heavy and a lot of pressure on the wrists.. but I'm used to it as the XL1 was the same way. Next check, I'm gonna get a shoulder mounted system. That spiderbrace looks sweet for 70 bucks. The DVrig looks cool but I'd reather put my cash into something else first...

give the old Viewfinder a shot.. and definitely in B&W... A must for focus.
 
I was using the LCD.

Justyn your right, against your face would give you some more stableness, unless your head has a slight or major twitch... I dont know why I did not think about it at the time. .Thanks for the tip. And I will set the VF for b&w. With the XL series cameras, I had to use an external Marshall. The XL series cameras, with the MA-200 was such perfect shouldering, and at something like 9lbs.. this is 5+ lbs, give or take, and all you can do is throw your elbow to your stomach. but my breathing gets in the way. :)
 
Totally. I've gotten used to the HVX but still kind of miss the XL1 and how the focus button was situated.. and just some overall ergonomics... And yes, it was more suportable.. That's why a spiderbrace is in my future. I shot for 6 hours straight the other day.. all handheld without a break and the arm wad jelly...
