I just received the new version of the baseplate and accessory arm from JDFilms (Curtis). It rocks.
The first one was designed to protect against the tripod mount tearing out. We've all seen those horrible photos, and I use a jib and slider so I wanted the protection from the stress. The first version was great for that.
Then I bought a Nanoflash and wasn't 100% happy with it on the hot shoe. It just looked like trouble. So I told Curtis what I wanted and he had it made (he's selling them now if you're interested.)
This second version fits perfectly, just like the first one did. You can have it on there in a few minutes. The only thing, and this is common sense, don't tighten the screws until they are all started.
I was also worried about the accessory arm fitting in my Kata bag. I didn't want to be taking it off and on all the time. It fits. The outside of the arm sticks out as far as the right hand grip.
There are 6 holes on the arm so you can add arm extensions, cold shoes, etc. I have a cold shoe on the accessory arm and slip the Nanoflash on to that. I'll add another one later for a wireless receiver.
Curtis, great job! His web site is:

[I have no affiliation with Curtis other than I asked him to make this.]
