Jaustere - "Split"

My storyboard artist and I are having trouble communicating, (more my fault than his, he's trying to figure out what I'm getting at) so I thought I'd throw up some VERY rough sketches I drew in a 'stream of consciousness' type of way.

My skills as a draftsman are nil, and I hesitate to post these extremely crude drawings, but I thought maybe anyone who's interested could see some of my ideas at their early stages...

Thanks, Aaron. Likewise! I was disappointed about not entering anything in Hero-Fest, but my wife gave birth to twins a month before the deadline...What was she thinking?

Wow. this is definitely an intriguing poster. Can't wait to see the movie and hear about how your production is going.

Glad you like it! I'm definitely going to try to keep this thread updated with production news/artwork/grabs over the next few months.

Thanks EJ. I still want to work with you at some point, BTW :) Your Hero-Fest spec scripts were awesome.

Yeah, Jack, you're probably not too far off with any ideas you get from the poster. However, there are a lot of meanings to the word "split", depending on the context, and I think people will be surprised when they see the flick. :)

Status update: still polishing the script and securing the remaining location (out of three). I've got someone (a much better artist than myself :)) working on some "concept" sketches, which I'll try to post soon.

Hey J, drop me an IM if you need help in the S dept! :)

Actually, if anyone needs a script to shoot, there's a good chance I maybe able to help you out. PM me for details.

how are those concept sketches going?
Jack, you are EXCELLENT at staying involved in each individual movie thread. You're a good guy.

Updated the first post with some relatively horrible concept sketches by yours truly. Hopefully I'll have something a little more complex soon.

Script has changed quite a bit! Mostly because I realized I'd written it too big - I had to scale way back on my original choice of locations. Ah well. Trying very hard to lock the script within the week.

Yeah those look cool.

Now I'm picturing something across between Shed and the Brainwashing scene in Zoolander, but art directed by Tim Burton, lol.

But seriously those are pretty evocative.

Does this take place in a mental hospital? That would be cool!
I forgot to answer your question, Stunts...Sorry about that. No, it does not take place in a mental hospital. It's a hospital of sorts, but a very.....strange sort of hospital :)

Love the sketches! It is cool to see where a concept begins and then to see the final product!
Thanks! Yeah, This concept has taken a roller coaster ride from the beginning...It will be interesting to see how much of what I have at this point actually ends up in the movie. Only a month and a half left now....

Thanks Jack - I had to go back and watch Shed after that comment. I'd never seen it; I think I joined the site at the end of zombiefest. Pretty savage stuff! And yes, there will be missing limbs in this flick, as the sketch implies.

Tim Burton? Yikes, I don't know about that, maybe Quentin Blake at the age of 6.

I really like those concept sketches. I love your drawing style.
You're too kind, Vislaw. Hey, I just now got the meaning of your user name. Cool. Your website was pretty impressive. Glad to see your putting all of that talent to use in a creative enterprise. That snake, and that girl! Man, I can't wait to see your flick!

First off, and I know you get thus jaustere, this is not meant to imply or suggest a lack of originality.
Just some cool comparisons and an illustration of great minds think alike theory

...
it was this part particularly that reminded me of Burton's sketches

Note the signature party colored banding (black and white stripes) that he is fond of in his
sketch above and the two photos below, which you also incorporated in your horns in your sketch.

I think your drawing style, and other elements are more like Clive Barker however.
