I got a GH1 with firmware 1.33 (it used the 1.32 with increement propably!) which was hacked to get the english language.
When I tried to use Ipowells settings using Ptool and 1.32 firmware from Panasonic site and saved it and loaded it in my camera the update started but now I cant save any settings and each time I turn off and on the camera it reverts to japanese languae. I have double checked that I checked the language thing in Ptools (its already set in Ipowells .ini file..).

I had firmware 0.0 after the update...

Am I doing anything wrong?

cheers and thanks for all the help and kudos to the makers of Ptools and the hack!

I'm finding the same... although with mine I've managed to save all the other dial settings so they display English...

Just the Custom setting reverts to Japanese...

Cheert

Thank you I didn´t think of that.. Since the tutorial video told me to update in Custom mode i were only there... All the others works just fine.

Strange thing though that Custom mode reverts to japanese!

Yeah... It's annoying....

Maybe somebody has found a way around it...

Would be nice to have a feature that only allowed you to load the language you want...

Rather than having every language loaded...

Cheers

Are you saying that it reverts to Japanese for all settings in Custom Menu after restart?
Any other problems?

I ask because I am about to order Japanese model. v 1.2 firmware for hack

Thanks Vitaliy...

I find it only effects the custom settings... all other settings remain in English...

If you dial into the custom settings and change to English it only remains in English whilst in the custom setting mode... if you dial to another setting it reverts back to Japanese.. ( I'm only guessing it's Japanese as the camera came from Taiwan via Ebay seller... )

I've tried changing the language in both the tools menu and my menu but as soon as you dial to another setting or turn off the camera it reverts to Japanese...

Cheers

Thanks for all work effort... hopefully I'll get a lens in the next few days and can actually try the camera out...

Again. I need step by step guide.
Ala
Step 1. Press this button.
Step 2. This menu appears.
Step 3. Goto language menu...
etc.

Thanks... this is my step by step guide to an already hacked Japanese camera...

Starting up in any other mode than custom the English Language is displayed...

Turning the dial to custom defaults to Japanese menu....

Ok.. step by step starting the camera in Custom Mode...

Step 1 - turn Dial to Custom...

Step 2 - turn camera on.. Japanese Menu is displayed...

Step 3 - Push centre menu button...

Step 4 - navigate to settings menu -

Step 5 - right click and navigate to icon with little face and Speak Ballon...

Step 6 - right click and navigate to english menu and press centre button to enter...

Step 7 - press enter again and navigate custom menu in English..

Step 8 - If you then turn the dial to another setting and then return to Custom Mode it is back in Japanese ... and you have to re set them again...

Cheers

I've tried this out and here is my step by step:
1. Turn on camera (any mode other than "CUST"). Hit menu to make sure it is English menu.
2. Turn mode to "CUST".
3. Hit Menu. You can see the top and bottom of the menu is Japanese, although the "Set1", "Set2", "Set3" is English. If you exit out of menu at this time, by hitting the menu button, everything is still English. Hit the "right" arrow to see the display. Exit menu, and it's still English.
4. But, hit "left" arrow, and all of the menu is in Japanese.
5. If you exit, and change from CUST to another mode, the menu is in English.

Yep... that's pretty much what I'm seeing...

Although when I'm turning to custom mode I'm sure I'm seeing the 'no lens attached' written in Japanese...

Cheers

I have seen the same behavior with both Japanese and english (US) model GH1.

1) Whenever you switch to CUST mode on the GH1 the menus are displayed in the original language of the GH1 (Even after switching the default language to something else)

2) If you change the language to something other than the original languege while in CUST mode the setting will remain only for that session

3) Also, selecting any of the 3 (C1 SET 1, C2 SET 2, C3 SET3) custom mode settings slots will reset the language back to the original language even if a new language was selected while in that session

4) Switching back to any other mode will show menus in your desired setting not the original language (even if you did not change the language setting from the original language while in CUST mode)

5) When you navigate back to the CUST mode the menu is back to the original language

Again, this behavior is the same on both a US GH1 made in Chine and a Japanese GH1 made in Japan. Both are hacked but I wonder if this is a Panasonic bug?

It is just firmware behaviour.
Language setting is copied in custom modes.
So, upon switching your setting overwrites also.
It is not related to hack.
I overwritten all three custom settings with proper language selected and all work fine now.

You can call this bug, of course. But programmers just made this easy for them - simple all settings copy.

Ah yes,
I tried it now and you certainly are correct. I would agree this is not a bug. While it initially seemed strange that Panasonic would not change the language setting on all three custom slots when the global language setting is changed I guess the behavior does allows any custom slot to have a different language setting. (Which makes sense if needed)

I also got confused as I did not properly read my GH1 manual which after a year is still on my list of things to do...
Thanks

In reality firmware just copy all settings to FeRAM (as big block).
As I understand all settings are stored in special FeRAM chip and not the main flash.

Im still a little confused, is there a way to save the settings so it always starts in english?
