Japanese Horror Movie Trailer for class

So I'm taking videography at college this semester. We had to make a 1-2 minute film. First we had to present our idea in front of the class. Everyone wanted to do something funny. I kinda broke the mood when I wanted to make a horror movie trailer. I'm so morbid. But it's something I been wanting to do for a long time. I've always been a fan of japanese horror flicks (Ringu,The Eye, and ju-on). I wanted to do that style of horror. So I got a few guys and my little sister and made her up and we shot it in a day. When I presented it to the professor, he like it but he didn't get some parts of it. The first version kinda takes you through the whole movie like it was a feature film in 3 minutes. This version here is the 4th and its 2 minutes. It concentrates on one idea, "Your nightmares coming alive". I'm gonna turn this in on tuesday. Techinals-settings were factory, I used magic buller (color reversal) on the first part, and regular color correction on the rest. Lemme know what u guys think. :)

dood, that **** was fuggin scary... OMG i almost pressed the x button to close the window when i saw that girl moving all weird... thanks alot hiro now i cant sleep...

geez

that was tight dood. i like the grainy look.

She's not Japanese? Just playing man. Hey it looks pretty darn good. Your editing makes it pretty creepy. So when do we get to see the whole thing? Good stuff man!

The concept is a fantastic one!!! And what you have here is pretty damn scary to me. My daughter and I ( :) ) are still pretty creeped out by the girl doing the freaky climb out of the well in The Ring 2, and your sister looks like that chick when she is crawling there. heh!

I don't know if it is a compliment or a criticism, but it draws a lot of elements (too many?) from The Ring and The Grudge. Of course, Ju-Won was far far scarier than The Grudge, which in my opinion was just silly as far as horror goes. just my $2 cents...looks great though..

Nicely done. So it does take from some other movies, but what horror flick doesn't? And besides the trailer does what it is supposed to - it get you to want to see the whole thing. Keep up the good work.

You had some creapy suspenseful shots in there. The weakest part is the editing. I would recommend tightening it up. There's too many scenes that ruin the mood. There's some repetitive scenes too and also some that reveal too much. The scene when he's slowing walking up behind the girl and puts his hand on her shoulder is disorienting. I couldn't tell which way the girls was facing. The scene when she's crawling is too long. Don't worry about trying to put every scene that you filmed into the trailer. You have enough good material there for a solid minute. Less is more.

Here's a trailer is just edited for The Dark Hours.

Awesome......that last shot could have been scarier.....at times I don't believe the guy is genuinely scared.
But good editing with this trailer. Is it going to be a full feature?
The beginning is highly reminiscent to the Japanese film "All About Lily Chou Chou" and the rest is very "Ringu"-esque.

sup guys. I'm glad some of you find it creepy. It was my intention, if it wasn't scary then I failed. heh. I know it made seem like im ripping these movies off, but actually I'm really paying tribute to these films. I remenber a while back long before I heard about "the ring", when are these eastern horror going to come over to america? I was never really afraid of jason, freddy krueger, etc..etc.. watching those kinda made me numb. It just wasn't scary anymore. Then I saw the ring, that scare the crap out of me. The 2nd wasn't as scary but the "well "scene was very well done. Innovative i think. I like when samara whips her leg kinda over her shoulder to climb. That was the best part of the whole movie. btw, I don't know if u guys notice, but the kid acting was just horrible. To answer some of your questions,

-I live in denver, it just outside of charlotte.
-Sorry I don't have a QT movie compressor. I currently use the regular windows media encoder that came with xp. I'm sorry for those who can't see it.
bgundu- thanks for the input, I'll definetly consider shortening some of it. Nice edit with the trailer. I'm guess it was shot in film and not dvx? Can't be. It's too good. You got mad skillz.
kabz- nope. It's not gonna be a full feature. But i would like to be one day! That be nice. But for now I'll just do shorts. work on my directing skillz.

I thought your trailer had some really good footage. Too bad you aren't making it a feature... I'd definitely watch it. I agree with most of the comments. Shorter is better, too many "crawling girl from the Ring" scenes... and I thought some longer clips broke down the pace/flow when I think you should have built up to a crescendo. My favorite was how you titled using the dress and the transitions. Last shot was scary too; it made me brush my teeth.

Q: Is that magic bullet that does that frame jump/slide effect.

Q: I also like that shaky blur/stretch effect on some of your transitions. What do you use on that?

I heard in the ring and such they filmed her doing the crawling backwards and then reversed it which is why the movement was so unatural, and her hair moved all weird, etc. So if you ever do any more work on this try that, I think it would look so much better. But as everyone else said you have too much footage of her crawling in the trailer.

Q: Is that magic bullet that does that frame jump/slide effect.

A: misfire has something like that I think, but if i remenber correctly, you can't control it I think. Misfire takes a lot of rendering time on my computer so I don't use it.

Q: I also like that shaky blur/stretch effect on some of your transitions. What do you use on that?

I did all that in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 , with keyframes. For the sliding up, I went into the position tab and adjusted it. Lets use an example.. The part where the guy says "how do you know so much about this stuff anyway?" Near the end I will set two keyframes. One for the regular position which nothing will happen. The 2nd keyframe will bring the frame 3/4 of the way down. This happens in like 0.3 of a second. It's a Nice effect, I just found it out last night. After you've done that, put some noise into it. to make it look a transition, do the same thing but in front of the clip of the next shot and instead of bringing it down, make it go up. The result will look like you change the channel.
