Hi Jan,

The Fujinon TH13x3.5BRMU 1/3" 13x High Definition Wide-Angle Lens seems to be designed specifically for JVC's line of ProHD cameras...

Will this lens eventually work with the HPX300 CAC function?

If not, which are the options for wide-angle lenses recommended?

The Fujinon XT17x4.5BRM-K14 standard lens is the only one listed under your CAC Operation Lens Table.

Thank you so much in advance.

Hi,
That lens will work but there is no CAC lookup table in the lens, nor is there an algorithm in the camer for it. But is is a pretty nice lens.

Best,

Jan

No, That means that the lens will not be able to take advantage of the CAC function in the HPX300 since, as Jan said, there is no LUT.

CA is a fact of life and in the case of the stock HPX lens, Panasonic has encoded at custom LUT into the camera to compensate for it.

i have tested Th13x3.5 with hpx300 & saw that the lesn had very much comparable results to the stock lens, visually on Panny HD scren.

The field of view will be no major diff as stock lens has 4.5 vs Th13 has 3.5 angle of view. i could make any visual diff between the two lens, you should personally check the two lens & then make your decision.

Well... the Fujinon TH13x3.5BRMU is +20% more wider than the stock lens!

Quite a difference... more angle of view than the difference between a 20mm versus a 25mm on the Photographic 35mm Focal Lenght equivalent.

Cheers!

PS: I wish I had the chance to test both but living in South America is almost impossible.

Yes that lens works; they had one installed on an HPX300 at NAB. It does look pretty good and the CA seemed under control from what I could tell from just pointing it around the show floor. But it should be, since that lens costs nearly 2x what an HPX300 kit costs. And it's nice and wide. It's like having a 0.7x converter on a DVX100.

Not Really, At NAB, (Cannon) it was mentioned That there are only 5 of those cameras in the world with the Cannon lenses ( All prototypes), The rest have Fujinon lenses.

Barry,

Great to hear that even thought this Fujinon TH13x3.5BRMU lens is available for $6,599.95 at B&H.

Hope we are talking about the same one!

Well, tickle my britches but I'm pretty sure that lens debuted at like $13,000. Or $11,000. So if it's now available for under $6600, that's not bad at all! Looks like the same one I was thinking about.

Canon has introduced a 1/3" lens as well, they had one mounted to an HPX300 at the NAB booth.

Barry,

Thanks again for your input.

Look forward to see that new Canon soon.

:)

Thanks to a tip here I bought a Century clip on 0.8X wide angle adaptor. £900 inc an essential lens hood as its too big for my matte box. CAC is retained and hopefully still tracks properly?

THe Fujinon for JVC lens gives the same 20% extra 'wide angle' as this but for a lot more outlay. Now if it did 40% wider (as this still isnt wide enough really) then it would make more sense as a 'proper' solution.

I bought this to buy time really...

The new Canon 14X CAC lens spec'd for the JVC GY-HM700 has not been released by Canon yet. JVC has been shipping us the Fujinon TH17x5BRM non-CAC 17X lens with the GY-HM700 and will continue to do so for the next few months.

We've tested the HPX300 with the Fujinon HTS18x4.2BRM and it looked very good in our office. I asked our Fujinon rep yesterday if they had plans to make CAC versions of the 13x or the 18x, and he said that there wasn't anything in the works yet. We have our demo HPX300 available with the 18X for $12,995.

We sell the TH13x3.5BRM for $6495

If you are in Central Texas you can stop by our office for a demo with these lenses. If you are a regular customer, we'll loan you the HPX300 for a test shoot.
