Jan: P2 Viewer for Mac costs how much?

Interesting that Panasonic and Apple are in bed with eachother, and its Windows thats gets the free software...

All those engineers in white labs coats locked away in their little room again, no logical thinking whatsoever...

HDLOG IS NOT A PANASONIC PRODUCT! It's an existing logging product, and they happened to add P2 viewing capability to it. So if you're on the Mac it's an option you can consider.

It's not like Panasonic is charging you $699 for the P2 Viewer on the Mac. It's a third-party software product, just like FCP is.

It would be very nice if Panasonic would develop and release a free P2 Viewer for the Mac.

Barry, I don't think anyone said or assumed that HD LOG was in any way associated with Panasonic. But I understand your precursor for furture thread readers.

I don't care who made it, I wouldn't pay $700 for a viewer program. I could get a program to make that program and learn about how to make it for far less than that I'm sure. BTW I know nothing about programing...but I would be willing to learn because it doesn't seem like Panasonic is in any hurry to get a P2 viewer to us Mac users.

The point is, it's not a VIEWER program.

It's a logging/archiving program. It happens to work to view files too, but it's not a viewer. It does things the Panasonic P2 Viewer can't even start to think of dreaming about.

That said, if all you want is a viewer, that product doesn't exist yet but hopefully someone will take on the task and produce it.

If someone decides to develop a Mac version of the P2 Viewer, how about a Linux version as well? I'd like to save the cost of an extra license and use my notebook just to dump the contents of a P2 card. Linux would be the perfect solution.

I realize HD Log in not a Panasonic product or "just" a P2 Viewer - I know the difference.

“HD Log is a valuable software link in the production process,” said Jan Crittenden, Product Business Line Manager, DVCPRO products, Panasonic Broadcast (NYSE: MC). “It works beautifully with the P2 technology of the AG-HVX200 hand-held DVCPRO HD camcorder and provides logging, viewing and organizing of original MXF video. With the HVX200 camera, Macintosh laptop and HD Log software, video acquisition and organization in the field has never been easier or more portable.”

(Okay, I'll make a more direct point, but not as fun) My point is this...

TO: Panasonic and Apple
Get a full functioning Mac P2 Viewer out the door as well as a more P2/HVX friendly FCP Upgrade! ASAP!

Exactly. Where is the P2 logging program for MAC? Its been how long now, and they just pass us off to an existing software maker??

We know what this HD log is, but lol i think i speak for most users when i say i honestly couldnt care less. Where is the support for Mac users Panasonic/Jan?

If Panasonic is partnering with companies to co-manufacture and co-market like the Firestore... why doesn't Panasonic co-develop (and deliver) software with Imagine Products? (I'm sure I'm not turning on any light bulbs at Panasonic)

It seems Imagine Products has a viewer ready to repackage as a FREE P2 Viewer. (I make it sound simple don't I) It is an interesting and crucial stepping stone, since the P2/data-driven workflow is so important to the "new thinking" behind P2. Adding a few bells and whistles would help too. Finding the intermediate software element (more than just a P2 Viewer) to make shooting-to-edit less cumbersome is essential.

Now, with that said, I'm sure Panasonic knows the Mac integration situation and knows the importance of FCP to P2 success. They may be just trying to time a P2 Viewer release with a FCP Upgrade. Or something like that.

We can only hope... because some of us are really pissed off at the moment.
