Jan feedback on af100

^^^

those screengrabs look beautiful!!

Thanks. What i like about the current configuration is illustrated in the shot with the house and tree screen left. The house is very bright, in direct sun, and very white. It is exposed within the limits of Cine-D, and at the same time, the bark on the tree in shadow is still showing good detail. As I said before, I would challenge the "film-look" of these grabs to cameras far exceeding the AF100 in price and perceived performance. I'm really happy with it. The noise, I've learned to manage, and I like that it adds an organic feel to the images.

These do look good and I am a big Cine-D fan as well. Unrelated, but why do the frame grabs when attached the way you have them, look so much worse than those frame grabs that are embedded right into the post? I find a lot of the frame grabs look bad but I know it's just through the web compression of the grabs, but they seem to look better embedded straight into the post.

Thanks for sharing those stills bhdfield. They have me interested in playing with Cine D and the Cine Matrix more. Do you have any other setting suggestions, like detail or coring?

Sure, here are the rest of my settings for those stills:
Gamma: Cine-Like D
Matrix: Cine-Like
Skin Detail: OFF
Detail: -1
V Detail: -2
Coring: 0
Chroma: -3
DRS: OFF

Add the Voigtlander 25/.95, and I should add I also use the Nanoflash. I'm not aggressive in detuning the detail, because I have experimented with that and found there's just too much lost. I find this setting about right for keeping edges from looking too sharp, while maintaining fine detail. I leave coring where it is. The Chroma I lowered until I saw a level that both took out some noise, and left colors natural, without being too saturated. And keep your skin tones DOWN in your waveform. Whether you use the TVLogic, as I do, or the built-in waveform, it's very important with the Cine settings to stay around 65 or so on skin tones. And watch the buildings and other items in the backgrounds. When you do want to blowout a window, as I did in one of these stills, you still get very nice fill on skin tone.
