Jan could you please clarify the AF100 shipping date?

Originally the AF100 was supposed to ship from Panasonic to dealers on December 27th. Last week Olof said you told him at the AF100 presentation at RULE in Boston that the date got moved up to as early as December 18th (see this thread). Now some are saying that wasn't correct and really no one here is sure when the AF100 will ship. Could you please clarify if there has been a change or not? Thanks!

Yes, when you can, Jan, please.

Thanks, and hope you had a good Thanksgiving (are you thankful the AF100 is close to release?)

The cameras start shipping toward the end of December. They are going to start shipping once the pass QC. There are a lot of cameras coming off the production line and we will start to ship as soon as we can. We plan to have all of the cameras out of the factory by the 27th. So what does that mean? There is no guaranteed date that you will have your camera. I don't mean to be vague, but I don't want to be bullied here either when you, the virtual you, don't get your camera by a certain date. Just know that we are very keen on getting them out there as soon as possible.

So does that mean that the very first units may start to ship earlier around the 17-18th as we have been hearing then?

Okay, so that means the 27th isn't necessarily the date they start shipping, but it is the "worst case" date by when they will all have shipped? So it is possible that maybe some will be earlier, but no guarantee, right?

So if I understand correctly, the "ship date" is to be (or was) the date they ship from the FACTORY and NOT the date they ship from the dealer.

That means an extra delay: Factory --> Panasonic USA ---> Dealer ---> Your Hands.

It comes when it comes.... :cheesy:

I'm anxious to get my camera as well but would rather wait the extra few weeks or even month for quality assurance purposes. This is a step that shouldn't be rushed.

I think folks may be missing the good news on jan's post. She said there are a LOT of cameras to ship. So maybe the rollout will be a lot smoother than the HVX's and the massive backorder situation will be alleviated.

The way I read it, it is possible to interpret that she is saying that they're making more than before And that they will be shipping them out until the very last one leaves on the 27th.

So I wouldn't count on getting one prior to the 27th but also wouldn't be surprised if a few showed up a little earlier.

Product does not go from the factory to Panasonic USA normally, it goes to a couple of main distributors directly. Every dealer orders from these distributors, not from Panasonic USA. The dealers really don't have much more of a clue as to delivery time, how many units they will actually receive on the first shipment, etc, than we do.

I agree with Barry, from Jan's post, it seems like we will see the AF100 arrive in some initial batch prior to December 27, then it's up to the distributors to send allocated stock to the dealers.

I don't mean to be vague, but I don't want to be bullied here either when you, the virtual you, don't get your camera by a certain date. Jan

The virtual "us" can be pretty damn annoying...

That said, who's most adept at reading the tea leaves of Jan's message???

I'm rolling chicken bones on the floor, and burning candles in the hope that my cameras are at the start of the shipping chain - rather than the end.

Thanks Jan for filling us in on what you can!

For everyone else, I noticed Jan said "We plan to have all of the cameras out of the factory by the 27th" which to me maybe means Panasonic will shut down the factory for the new year holiday and will be shipping cameras as quickly as possible as they come off the line starting some time before the 27th. This is all good news as Panasonic is making "a lot" of cameras as Barry pointed out and there's a decent chance they'll ship some orders earlier than the 27th. This is all just a possibility since as Jan said she can't guarantee any dates.

Either way, thanks again Jan!

This is good news, though i cant help but wish i was in the states. Hopefully the cameras will be nicely spread out by region :).
