Jan C.-L. : why are you so quiet since the release?

As a new poster (though not a new viewer), I must say how impressed I've been that someone from Panasonic takes the time to answer questions directly on these boards. It's really quite amazing. That alone, would have had me leaning towards the HVX.

I just want to put my voice in the mix, give a shout out to Jan, and second Joe's comment -- feel the love, Jan! Thanks for all you've done to bring us this amazing camera!

Jan, I didn't see the comments but am sorry that they were made. You have been incredibly dilligent, patient, rational voice that are highly respected by many here.

Take some time off, you have been working very hard and its well deserved. You and your team also did an incredible job of listening to many of us to build a marquee product to the industry benefit. Thank you very much for helping all of us by sharing your knowledge and insight ...

thanks a lot and hopefully you have a chance to take a breath....

I too would like to thank Jan for all that she does her on this board. Since I first discovered DVXUser Jan's presence and willingness to help has been the reason I check the board every day. It is a fantastic service she is providing.

I wish other companies I deal with had people working for them who had half her commitment to helping and listening to customers.

jan,

there are many people who just don't deserve to be in the game. i too apologize for some of the idiots who have commented for things that really are out of any individuals control. i venture to guess that many of these so called complainers are really not going to buy a camera anyway. those of us on wait lists want out money to mean something. if it takes a few extra weeks or even months to get a delivered product that delivers on promises - i am all for it!

all of you who have bitched and complained about jan an panasonic tell me this "where do you go for this kind of info, direct contact and product support for your sony or JVC cameras?" huh, i can't hear you -- guess why -- because it doesn't exist my friends - that's right it doesn't exist!

so back off and become a positive part of this community or just go somewhere else! I don't pretend to speak for the owners of the forum or any other users - but come on this is a pot of gold for a forum and community and we all want good neighbors!

sorry to rant but some people have attacked one of my neighbors (jan) and it really reflects on our neighborhood. lets keep property values high and take the high road on this whole thing.

i'm out

The more I see the footage, the more I like the HVX. From what I've seen, Panasonic has done a fine job with this camera. I think that quicktime files with weird gamma settings caused a false panic about noise and I think that poor chart shooting created a false panic about resolution. I really like the look of true 24p. So far, the HVX looks like a brilliant product. As far as the way Jan has been treated, I think that it's unfair. She's been very helpful. I briefly met her in Mass. at some trade show (the name escapes me). She was very helpful and honest. I hope she keeps coming back to this site. We (and Panasonic) owe her a big thanks. I look forward to getting my camera, but if I don't get it fast, I will flip out and start screaming (just kidding).

Jan, I also think your presence here on board is so fabulous that everyone should thank for it.

The nature of the internet, the fact that the board is literally world-widely-read by so many people, should somehow relieve you from the recent harsh remarks made to you. Not all of us are native speaker of English ( me either ), and I can imagine that causes some misunderstanding of the intended humor, cynicism etc.

That said, we should really avoid all the personal attacks and the bs for sure.
We all love you anyways, Jan

Sheeesh. what a bunch of suck ups.

Hey Jan, I think you talk funny and that sometimes you shoes don't match your socks.
I also think your taste in restaurants leaves a lot to be desired. Speaking of food, I hear you're a lousy cook.

As far as the resolution charts, all I can say is if you are not in possession of a real manufactured res chart like one from DSC, it means that you are probably not an engineer, and frankly there is engineering to doing charts. I think the charts are bogus and mean nothing.
Well, world/technology has changed and today ink or laser printer can print good enough charts for all kind of cameras and lenses. 600dpi printer with A3 size paper can have 10k pixels horizontally.
Shooting and reading charts isn't rocket science, every cine/videographer and AC should be able to test different camera+lens+filter combinations just to make sure how they behave. It is regular testing that is done before bigger productions.

<sarcasm>Yes, of course Brian... Because it's much more constructive to be obnoxious than sycophantic. </sarcasm>

Personally I think it's really great that Jan posts here, and we're able to get questions answered about Panasonic products by someone who knows what their talking about, rather than hearsay, rumours, or worse - an electronics store salesman.

Jarred

I've missed the personal insults and comments against Jan, but if they've really overstepped the mark, surely those posters should be warned, and if they persist banned? Strong views and hard questions are fine, but getting personal in a negative way is not.

Jan is an incredible asset to the site, and it's deplorable that she should have been made to feel personally attacked.

Big thanks to Jan for hanging in there with us.

Eric

If i remember correctly they were. Jarred knows how to keep his yard clean.

Jan:

I'll make this short and sweet . . .

I truly appreciate all of the time and effort you have put into the DVX and making the HVX a reality. I also appreciate your open interaction with Panasonic's customers and potential customers here on these forums and elsewhere. I'm sorry some people have treated you so sh!tty. That type of behavior is not representative of the vast majority of us. I hope you continue being part of our community.

Best,

D~C

Hopefully not by me Jan. If so I am sorry since it was not my intention at all.

Hi,

I am here but I have to say I have been a little put off by some personal remarks and the unbelieveable statements that have been made here. I am getting over it but frankly it has been a real learning experience.

I don't think anything you said was a personal insult Cees. You were just asking a question about the product, and you did clarify:

Don't misunderstand me I am a big fan of Jan and am very interested in her opinion on the recent footage shown in various threads. Maybe the title of this thread sounds offensive/insulting but this is not intended that way (sorry, English is not my native language).

FWIW, I've noticed a lot less "attack first, ask questions later" on forums which only allow real names for user names. MVWire switched to this method and I think they are much happier.

I.

Hi Illya,

Nice to see you here. Did you ever see my photo of you, Ben and Matt at the film out of the HVX200.. Look at my site, scroll a few paragraphs down in the news section, there are some photos from the screening . I wish more people could have see that HVX200 footage out to film. It looked very good from a sub 6k camera.

Thank you. I'm glad you like the web site..

I have a 640x480 30fps video clip of the projection of the hvx200 footage on the screen. It looks awesome. If I ever get the chance I will upload it for all of you to see I think the HVX200 is going to be a powerful contender in small affordable professional HighDef cameras.
