James Bond Films

What do you all think about the Bond flicks? Favorites? Hated ones?

I personally like the old ones with Sean Connery..Roger Moore..and Pierce Brosnan

Some of the movies are kinda far fetched with the gagdets and stunts...but they are cool as all hell.

Has anyone heard news about the new James Bond comin out next year? Casino Royale

Love all of the Bond films (except A View to a Kill, that one just grates on my nerves for some reason). I never minded the farfetched films (Moonraker), but I also like the more grounded Bonds (From Russia with Love). In short I like all of them. :) If I'm not sitting with my grandson some day watching Bond 67, and if James isn't spouting off one-liners and getting the girl, then I'm going to be very disappointed.

Now, having said that, I think Casino Royale is going to be a disaster. I think the idea of a "young hip" Bond is terrible. The series doesn't need reinvention. A return to roots, perhaps, but not a reinvention. Furthermore, Casion Royale was always the Bond that Brosnan wanted to make, so it seems rather backstabbing to cut him out of the franchise at this point. The few actors out there that could play Bond have already said no, and the ones in the running aren't very good. Sadly it looks like we're going to have to go through the "off Bond" like we did with Lasenby and Dalton before we can get a good Bond again. Personally I'd rather see the franchise get a rest rather than the direction Casino Royale is heading.

If you couldn't tell, I'm highly opinionated on my Bond. :)

Much the same way many people disown Never Say Never Again.

I actually like that film version of Casino Royale, but it's far from Ian Flemming's novel.

Yeah, Casino Royale's definitely a trip. Peter Sellars as James Bond, not a bad casting choice actually. I do think the Bond franchise is in need of a change. Its been getting stale lately. I think reinventing Bond as young and hip is a bad move though. If anything I think they should turn the franchise upside down and strip away some of the cheese and focus on character.

And Brosnan's been great as Bond. They won't realize how good he was until they get someone else in the role who can't fill his shoes.

I think Clive Owen will be the next Bond and have thought that for about 5 years.

I would like to do a Bond, but it would probably be R-rated, far darker, slightly sinister. The stupid gadgets would get the boot too - no invisible cars, but good old poison dart watches, tear gas suitcases etc.

...and for the record, would a SECRET agent really drive around in an Aston Martin? All my favourite Bond bits are the "close to reality" scenes... well closer!

The 2CV and Renault 11 car chase were far better than the Aston vs Jag boring ice scene! Goldeneye tank chase was good, because although incredible, was mostly physically possible! Some of the newer Bonds have REALLY lost the plot! Casting Denise Richards! Surfing the CG wave! Escaping from the destroyed plane in the helicopter! WTF!!! Come on!!

Yes what makes bondmovies (the old ones) really great was they made REAL stunts. It was fantastic to watch.

To se bond doing a digital stunt is just boring (if you can se its a digital stunt)

Other stuff was that we need a real good villain. Stromberg and Drax were real Bond villains. They made Bond look tiny infront of them. As for the henchmen. We need henchmen of "From russia to love" and "Living daylights" someone that will give bond a run for his money (Jaws is over the top).

And dont make bond to superhuman, that take away a lot of the suspense. Look at a Steven Segal movie of your own chooise, hes so good in them that you feel more for the poor bad guys.

Hm...maybe we should all write out a super good Bond movie script and screenplay...march down to Hollywood...strap their producers to chairs..slap them across the face with the movie script/screenplay...and tell them if they dont make a decent Bond movie thats not far-fetched...we will create our own...

heres how we can gain money to do it...
-Salvage through trash cans to get people to look at you and give you money because they feel sorry for you.
-Pick up pennies
-Have a garage sale

once we gain about....id say..roughly...10 million dollars...we can make the ultimate bond flick from the bond FANS themselves...not those high super classy producers who are just looking for a quick million dollars even if it means sacrificing the series.

I am more of a fan of the newer Bond films, however I liked some of the older ones as well. I think AMC is showing Bond film's all month or something.

Agreed. I don't like the superhuman villans any more than I like the superhuman Bond. The World is not Enough and Die Another Day were the worst for that in my opinion.

One of my favorite villian is Elliot Carver from Tomorrow Never Dies. He's human. His ambitions are not quite as far fetched as Drax, and the power the he had was realistic. Actually Tomorrow Never Dies remains one of my favorite Bonds of the whole series.

Yes Elliot Carver was a better Bond villan.

What makes it challenging for bond is that he should meet 2 bad guys. One with the brain one with the muscles/skills.

Because Bond must rise above the challange and be smarter and stronger then the villan and his henchman.

I agree that Tomorrow Never Dies is good, not the best in the series but the best Brosnan did.

Tomorrow Never Dies is more realistic than Die Another Day...wayy more actually...

just wondering...do any of you know where I can buy ALL the bond films on dvd or something? like a collectors series? or you think they will have something like that next year when they make the final Bond film?

For me, the best part of Bond films is that I can watch them.

Growing up behind the iron curtain, I 'heard of them', caught some parts in German on ORF (Austrian TV) once or twice when the weather was good, but never really had a chance to watch them.

I have a DVD collection, but it's not complete - I have all the Brosnan ones, and a few others. For our 20th anniversary, my wife and I took a trip to Switzerland and visited the mountain where they shot parts of 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' - the one with George Lazenby. The location is awesome.

I probably enjoyed 'Golden Eye' most - partially because of the tank chase through the streets of St. Petersburg that I visited back in 80s, partially because of the unforgettable 'I am invincible' Boris character. Some of my co-workers started calling me Boris because of my Slavic accent.

Hm ... I didn't get a big shiny tin. :( In the US you can get three
seperate sets and get all the Bond films.

XCheck, that's a neat perspective. It had never crossed my mind that other countries might not cheer for Bond the same way.

mmm...thank you!!

im gonna buy this...or you think i should wait untill next years new movie comes out then buy it then...? hm...

oh wait....NOOO!! ITS ON PAL!!!

Damn mmm!

That would be something else to own. I love Bond. Always will; even the bad ones. I long to create a CIA spy that is as cool one day but also not a rip-off.

I'v seen all the bond films allready long ago.. (save the latest ones of course ..pity I accidently saw D.A.D.. that sucked) ..except for Casino Royal, which I only saw recently.

Why ..how?.. are they goign to remake it?

I wasn't that big a fan myself at first, but it was really rather funny, and it had a couple of important bits of backstory. Most importantly the refereance that the 007 agent's name is always "Jame Bond" that it's actually a title.. ..This does a good job of explaining the ability to succesfully switch actors.

The way things are goin, Bond is starting to look like TripleX, only less so.

I like the old ones.. the ones with some story.
But i think my fave has to be either GE, or TND

Keep in mind that the Casino Royale that you saw was meant to be a farce. That's not the Casino Royale that Ian Flemming wrote to kick off the Bond books. For the current Casino Royale they're going back to the source material and not basing it off of the old one.

Latest rumors on filmforce.net is that they're considering postponing Casino Royale because they can't find a replacement for Brosnan.

I long to create a CIA spy that is as cool one day but also not a rip-off.

Why create? I'd pay to see Bond 25 Directed by John Hudson.

Wonder how an american Bond would look like.
