jam syncing

has anyone done it? I tried jam syncing to a dvx the other day and it couldn't get it to work (in camera mode) and yes I can read, but the manual is vague and confusing...

On a sililar note, how would you jam sync with an audio recorder? That has BNC timecode inputs. Fostex FR-2.

Thanks in advance.

Who is this "Manuel" person? Many other members of this forum have complained about his vague, confusing, and incomplete advice.

I implore the moderators to ban this Manuel person once and for all.

I agree is there someone that has used the time code features of this camera yet. It says it can sync to time code and output time code. So how is this done and if it is over the fire wire port, how would we adapt that to slandered time code methods aka? BNC,4 Pin XLR, 1/4" TRS. ECT..

And as for Manuel I think he should be banned and not just for a day j/k

All timecode functions on the HVX are done through the firewire port. So no BNC/XLR/TRS functionality, unless someone somewhere has come up with a firewire-to-BNC converter box that I don't know about yet?

I am in a motorhome on a shoot right now as I type this. We are shooting with 3 HVX-200s, all synced using the TC sync function.

1. The manual makes no sense to anyone who speaks English

2. You must put the cam into tape mode to get it to jam sync, then reboot it back into P2 mode.

3. Our sound mixer is using a Zaxcom Deva. We met with him this morning and jam synced, by hand, to as close to time of day as possible. There was no physical connection between the Deva and the cameras, just tried to get it as close as we could, it should be within 2-3 seconds of each other.

Once you know how to do it, it's not that hard. Oh and our backup is that we are Smart Slating everytime the cameras startup. It takes crew (this if for s sitcom pilot shot on) so we have a large crew of about 10 people just in the camera department. Would be difficult to do this correctly without enough people.

More soon,

Dan

Hi Nerd:

Updating from yesterday, upon reviewing the dailies for the TV show we are shooting, we THOUGHT that we were in sync because we were using free run time of day TC and we were able to get it really close, by luck. Turns out upon review of the footage that while we were close in TC, we were not in sync. The method we were using looked as if it was working but it wasn't.

Drat.

Have a call in to a few people at Panasonic. Will let you know if we get the proper way of doing it that actually works. Whoever did the translation for the manual should be shot, it makes absolutely no sense.

tape mode? as in DV tape mode? do you mean p2 playback mode with the thumbnails?

I actually need to jam sync in DV mode going to DV tape drive. I got the camera to sync up in tape mode, but when I switched back over to dv camera mode, it lost the sync.

"Manuel" should be banned!
