jaggies when panning

Re: jaggies when panning

That looks really compressed. Did you do any recompression on this clip? To answer your question, no the dvx footage is not supposed to look like this. If this is a file directly from the quickstreamDV you need to check your settings.

Re: jaggies when panning

scharky, did you save to your hard disk and view the footage? the one at the link is smaller. i did not compress the footage. it is actual footage from the dvx, 720x480.

Re: jaggies when panning

Yeah, I save it to my desktop and opened it in the quicktime player, at 100% it looks rather blockey and compressed. It looks like when you import a dv-avi file and then recompress it to a quicktime dv-ntsc file.

Re: jaggies when panning

watching john's double clutch music video, there are no jaggies(horizontal lines) as the camera swish pans, etc. this tells me there is something i need to do in my settings to avoid this. i played w/ the detail level w/ no luck. any suggestions? thanks!

Re: jaggies when panning

Boo

I cannot see what you are talking about! IS this an issue with DETAIL LEVEL perhaps? :-/

Re: jaggies when panning

try saving the clip to your hard drive that way you'll see the full 720x480 resolution. if you go to the last frame of the clip, you can see the lines especially on the plant's leaves.

Boo, are you looking at this clip in Quicktime with the High Quality setting on? By default it is usually off. The panning issue, is different. Shooting at 24p is going to look strobe-like. If you're taking about the slight jerkiness to the motion, it may be because you have the stabilizer turned on.

Re: jaggies when panning

I did see a ZIG in the leaves but....

Again, is this a detail issue? I mean it didnt look completely wacked out.

Re: jaggies when panning

i set the quicktime quality to high and that made it look better...however, in fcp4, the video still has those jaggies as you can notice on the leaves. do you guys think its a detail level issue? i'll played around w/ the camera a lil more...appreciate your comments! thanks!

Re: jaggies when panning

Thats the only thing coming to mind in that Im just not seeing, I think, what youre talking about?

Do you know if used Default Settings or did you tweak like a maniac in camera settings?

Re: jaggies when panning

did a little tweaking...close to default... john, do you remember your settings for your music video? thanks...

Ok, now I'm really confused. when I look at this clip, downloaded to my hardrive, it looks as compressed as a poorly converted mpeg1. What am I seeing here how do I change the quicktime settings to high, and why do other quicktime files play fine. here is a framegrab just so you can tell me if I'm going crazy or not. Boo keeps telling me that the clip is not compressed, so exported a short clip in quicktime dv format from a recent short I did with the dvx. I'm really confused here, is quicktime not playing back boos clip at full resolution?
here is the link

Re: jaggies when panning

I think that might be it. Wow. What a contrast in images. Now, I see exactly what Boo is referring to.

Love your wallpaper BTW.

Re: jaggies when panning

scharky, these are the files directly from the dvx captured in fcp4. i just tried marjamar's settings and still getting the same results... ??? i never had this problem w/ my vx1000...i'm still getting to learn the dvx and trying my darndest everyday and keep referring to the manual as well as steve mullen's guide w/ no luck...guess i'll keep on trying and will continue to listen to suggestions...
