jagged lines

Hey All

I'm new to the forum and i'd like to say it's an absolutely fantastic resource for any film/video maker that's starting out.

I just got my DVX100B and love it. I've had a look through a lot of the material covered in these posts and have learned a lot, but...

I actually remember seeing this somewhere but I can't for the life of me find it again:

I've been shooting some footage in the NTSC 24PA mode with an anamorphic adaptor, got it into the computer, and digitised it into FCP as NTSC 29.97 - 23.98, then put it in a 23.98 timeline. I've noticed that a lot of the diagonal lines in the frame, i.e. a room edge or a table on an angle, are jagged, like some bad compression's going on. I put the anti-alias filter on the footage and it still didn't help.

I think I remember turning a setting on did this, but which one????

Cheers,

David

You might take a look at the DETAIL and V. DETAIL FREQ settings.

Try turning down the detail and deciding whether you want THIN, MID or THICK for your V. DETAIL.

The 'least' risk for jaggedness would be THICK. That is if you're ultimately going to play on a television.

THIN retains the most resolution and would be ideal if you're going to do a film-out. If you're going to be doing video-for-tv, MID might be a good compromise but THICK would have the least amount of 'jaggedness'.

Don't forget to turn down the DETAIL too. Hope this helps. I'm fairly new to the DVX myself but that's been my experience so far.
