jagged edges on Dv ntsc footage.

Whenever I watch Dv footage I filmed it has these jagged edges around people /objects. You can see the jagged edges while the footage is playing. It didn't always look like this when played back. Anyone know what's wrong? It looks like this in Final cut pro and on quicktime player. here is a still from some footage. I would appreciate any help.

its called interlacing. what frame rate were u shooting in? you will see this if u shot your footage in 60i and are displaying it on a progressive monitor such as your computer. You can either deinterlace it for viewing on your pc or you can shoot your footage in progressive mode (24p or 30p). 24p on a 24p timeline and 30p on a 60i timeline.
 
I know what interlacing is. But I think something may be wrong with my computer settings. The clip that the still is from used to not have those obvious edges while in playback on the same computer. I don't know if it could be from a quicktime update or something?. But you could be right. It may just be that I have been so used to working with DVCPro HD Progressive footage lately, that I notice the interlacing more on dv footage now.
 
I can't stand watching both fields of an interlaced video signal at once. If you're playing the footage in Quicktime you will see them. If you play it in VLC there's an option to deinterlace for you. I'm pretty sure all the NLEs will automatically deinterlace interlaced footage for playback on your computer monitor. It's up to you to set it to burn deinterlacing into your output file, though.
 
You never answered Jambredz--so what did you shoot in?? 60i, 24p or 30p?

What are your capture settings??

sequence settings??

what were your export settings??

well most of the footage I'm talking about was shot with a Sony Vx-2100 at 30 fps. or 29.97 or whatever it actually is. Capture and sequence settings were both Dv NTSC and correct for the frame rate. When I export I use self contained video with current settings. But the same has happened when shooting in non progressive modes with the DVX-100.

The VX2100 does not shoot 30fps progressive, it shoots either 30fps interlaced or 15fps progressive. You shot interlaced, now you are having combing when deinterlacing with "weave" method.
 
I know the vx-2100 doesn't shoot 30fps progressive. I always shot at 30fps interlaced. And I never deinterlaced the footage in FCP.
 
But in case I accidently did deinterlace the footage in FCP. whats the weave method? What setings within FCP do I need to change to make the fooage show up interlaced again in the timeline?

Did you ever resolve this issue? I am having the same problem. I shoot with the DVX100 and the footage is 60i. Deinterlacing does not work. I am editing with Final Cut Pro 6 and using a dell CRT screen to view the footage. It looks the same as it does on my mac screen. Just like the photo above?
 
Does anyone know how to fix this ???? i kinda gave up trying to fix the problem a while back. I don't really use interlaced footage at all anymore, but I would still love to figure out how to fix it. any ideas?
