I've been watching as this film made it's way through development & pre-production through the years. Finally coming to the big screen, Kerouac's classic Beat Generation, life defining novel. Perhaps it should have been made back in the 60s, or even 70s when directors had more control, but it had to be made sooner or later. I believe I remember Coppola was originally named director back when it was still in development. Now the director of Diarios de motocicleta (The Motorcycle Diaries) helms the film. The feel and look of it through the trailer shows rawness and passion. Stars Garrettt Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart.

"Dean and Sal are the portrait of the Beat Generation. Their search for "It" results in a fast paced, energetic roller coaster ride with highs and lows throughout the U.S."

Looks too clean and teenybopper-ish to be "On the Road".
More Hollywood style candy coating to stories which need to have texture.
The book appears to have been reduced to a boy meets girl style romance novel.

I'm going to hold out my hopes that this will be a good film...it's not a bad trailer, and the director is a good choice for the material. I remember cringing when I first heard Spielberg was going to direct this years ago. He's a great director, but waaaaay too Hollywood for a story such as this.

There's still a part of me that wants to refuse to see this on general principle. It's usually so disappointing when they bring a great book to the screen. Hopefully this will end up being a Fear and Loathing rather than an Ask the Dust in terms of adaptations.
