Jack Daniel Stanley & Mark Johnson's REKINDLED

yea youre right, for the most part, criticism has been great this time around. I feel we learned alot, making our film, watching your film, and getting critiques on our work again.

I learned alot this Fest. :)

I might have missed it, but I'd love some more info on the drilling effect.
sure.
obv I know what you are refering to with "drilling"
but what do you mean by "effect"?
blood?
camera movement?
pov insert?
will answer tomorrow.

The blood spatter mainly. The way it came up looked really real...

I'm almost expecting you to say you have a guy with a bucket throwing it up on the driller.

Hmmmmm...Jack would never stoop to such a cheap technique as that :)

Jack,

Awesome work! I love how it starts with the record player; nice touch. Your cinematography and art direction were top-notch. All in all, production value is extremely high making this a very polished, professional piece. I've seen your other work, Shed and Bonehand; this one definitely outclasses them both in production value.

Your cast was great and delivered well through your direction. I can tell you had a very definitive vision for this film; shot by shot. The execution was very precise, professional and creative. Kudos.

The only weak part of the film for me is the story. I don't think it's the dialogue exchange between your characters but more so the structure and nature of what is happening. I've watch this film a few times and have yet to pinpoint my feelings. I believe in the world, the story world that exists beyond that screen but I'm not attached to these characters emotionally. I've thought, maybe it's because your male lead seems so confident all the time...but it's just a loose idea. I really enjoy your work which is probably why I'm analyzing it in detail in my head. No matter what, you're on the right track and I'm pretty sure I'll be seeing bigger and better things from you in the future.

I don't think I can say anything that hasn't already been said in the last 70 pages or so.

The behind-the-scenes details you've provided regarding how you dressed the set and prepped the props and all are great! Thanks for those.

In my opinion, it was a really interesting story, but I found it confusing at first. I had to watch it a few times to understand.

I get the feeling this would be better served in a longer than six minutes timeline...but maybe I'm just slow on the uptake.

Of course, everything else technical was superb. I especially liked the song you created for it.

REKINDLED

Well Jack, I don't know what to say that hasn't been already said a thousand times here already. The strongest visuals I thought were in the opening credits and the opening lady-on-the-table scene. Absolute first-class horror imagery and art direction. I think we needed more of that level of intensity spread throughout the balance of the film to completely satisfy all audiences, but you managed to pull off a highly sophisticated, elegantly detailed horror show for all of us to enjoy. Without a doubt, your attention to detail in the production design was most impressive. I'll have to re-watch the film to comment more intelligently, but in the meantime, huge kudos to you and your team for pulling off one of the most visually stunning pieces of horror in the fest!

No he would build a machine that threw the bucket of blood instead of a person....

haha,
but I didn't get to use it ... AGAIN!
I gotta get bts footy up here tonight to answer VersuS question. It's pretty funny what we did to get that shot and how booty it turned out until it was massaged in post.

Not offended, don't sweat it. :D

If you care, Virum is the accusative form the Latin word for "man." :)

As always Jack. You have a way of telling a story that makes it hard to turn away till it's done. This one could be a really cool stage play. But it more so gives the eerieness of those so few really good Japanese Horror movies.:thumbup:

why build a machine to throw the blood, when Jack has a perfectly intelligent beagle that needed to start earning his keep...?

Mark and Jack,
What a beautiful work Rekindled was. From the moment the title came across the screen, I knew I was in for one hell of a ride!

The record with the title... what an idea, what an idea!! The soundtrack being the vinyl's music really gave the whole piece a spine. Everything was so tightly packed that by the end of viewing I felt I had accomplished something... something very worthwhile. -- And I had, I had accomplished handing over the HVX. (Something not easily done...) ;)

Your film screamed 'kickass' in every way, every direction. I was terrified of the eye-holes in the portraits, terrified of the girl's first words "i live here?" -- the bathroom scene where it kicks in and out of your lead wearing a welding mask and the girl bleeding from the mouth -- brilliant editing!!

It's tough to pull off a stalker's 'room' full of photos and articles... but you pulled it off SO WELL!!!! With my film I tried doing the same thing, but I lacked the polaroids and newspaper clippings that your film showcased so beautifully... well, maybe not beautifully... but perhaps 'scared-me-shitless-ly' i dont know.

I loved it. 10's across the board from me. Thanks so much for sharing and you have taught me more than I could ask for in the course of 6 minutes.
Bravo Mark and Jack!
