Jack Daniel Stanley & Mark Johnson's REKINDLED

Peter Murphy said:
I love you Jack. Jack, Daniel, Stanley, whichever one of those is your real name. I'm sure your film will be outrageously wonderful with all sorts of bells and whistles screaching horrifically into my heart.

ditto. especially the part about whichever one of those is your real name. i also love the being formerly known as Vislaw and the gorgeously odd manner he has with stringing words together as if they were feathers gathered on the softest of breezes and reorganized in ways one has never before seen and thusly enlightening us in ways we had never expected we could be. our peoples of brooklyn greatly appreciated his presence here and really felt the positive fluctuation in the cosmic ju-ju, and the subsequent dip with his return to the left coast.
and hey - Jack - despite my hesitation, and practical inability to watch flicks with me in 'em - i truly cant wait to see this puppy!

I just saw Rekindled! I think it's one of the best shorts I've seen. Great film, great actors, great cinematography, great directing, great score! Congratz with this film, Jack. You get a 10 from me! Good luck with the contest!

Cheers,

Hey Jack. Just checked it out. Looked really nice man. I will write more later, but after the first viewing the big thing that stands out is the flow... nice smooth and solid flow. Great shots. Lighting was great.

Acting was great... some of the dialog felt a hair forced. Effects were awesome. The slit throat on the actor wasn't at the same level as the other effects. Looks like you simulated some camera movement in post or something. Anyway, something about it broke the flow.

Overall man, you rocked it. I didn't see any of Mark's work... So that must mean he nailed that part.

Jack, before I post my review, I just want to say, you are an inspiration to me, you got me inspired to do my first fest entry and I've been progressing (I hope) ever since. Thank you my friend.

Rekindled by Jack Daniel Stanley

Script
This is a very different script for you Jack. I feel the darkness of the film, but the ending leaves it very off-balance for me. I feel the mood changes too quickly, as the two lovers are forever with each other. I do not think the characters are given enough time to change.

Acting
Jason was AMAZING, flat out. He totally sold as the psychotic killer who really only wanted to be with her… Amy on the other hand felt very wooden… Maybe it was what she was supposed to be, as she was in fact dead, but I still feel some of her lines lacked some character.

Cinematography
Jack, all I can say is your movie is gorgeous! Flat out amazing! You have BLOWN ME AWAY with the look and feel you have achieved here with your framing and lighting. The HVX is shown off beautifully here, and I just can’t get over it. Wonderful job!

Editing
I liked the editing. It is a bit fast, but it works for this one. Again I feel the movie as a whole moves a bit too quickly, which may be why I wasn’t as sold on the story. I do like the flashback cuts and whatnot, and also the mirror shots at the beginning are terrific!

Score
Wow! Wow! The song is AWESOME! It has that catchy, yet dark feel… And the rest of the underlying score is great as well, Herman did a great job once again! 

Overall Impressions
Rekindled is indeed a work of art. I would say this is the second best film you have done, (as I think I liked ODD better). The look is fantastic, and you make the scenes work. I still have a few dings on the acting and story, but I still enjoyed the ride. Great work Jack!

I reall like the opening credit. you paid attnetion too GREAT lttle detials liek that. But it felt like too many vingnetts strung together , maybe i was wrong.... More Jason less amy ya know?. I think the film needs 3 more minutes. 6 min sucks... i know. But over all good effort :) I like I like!

You score high ;)

Good job, Jack. I agree that it seems a little condensed at 6-minutes, but I still liked it. Photography looks great! I LOVED the "red" room. Great set design. I'm sure I'll have nightmares about those damned pictures.

Script: It was a little all over the map. I think the story suffered from the
editing effect which was the star.

Direction: Excellent, but I knew it would be.

Acting: Solid.

Audio: Solid.

Editing: The star.

Score: Clever, artsy.

OVERALL: I felt that you excel in directing and editing, especially editing is your
strongest suit, but I also feel that the story suffers because the story isn't
developed. It's like a combination of wonderfully orchestrated clips but I'd
rather you engage me in a true, solid plot. This is definitely well done, but
the star is the editing, not the story.

Hey Jack, I need to watch this again but I had to pipe in and say that I love the look and feel of your film. It is so beautiful! And I have to agree with B-man, you are an inspiration. I know that I watched all three of your films from the FQF site before I jumped into this fest.

I have always wanted to make films. My career has lead me down many other roads. But when I got my camera, got on this site, saw your films and saw the fest, I said... "I want to do this!"

I hope to be able to create such lovely images that you do. It is just gorgeous!

Great job!

Acting: Great lead, how DID you get that woman naked? You old dog!
Script: Interesting idea. Nice twist. A tinsey little bit light?
Direction: Boy Jack, phew! I see AMAZING things in your future.
Music: Loved the record! Overall top job by the Herminator.
Editing: Loved the editing, tight flashes.
Lighting: Looked fantastic.
Loved: The start, the films feel, the record, the bench, the blood, the cool creepy pictures on the wall, the photo wall, that you directed it.
Hated: Ummm, keep cutting back to the bed shot’s felt it ate up screen time.
Overall: this is one hell of a creepy direction you’re going; god knows what will come next. You should be really proud of this project it’s unique.

Jack always a pleasure my friend.

I was actually disturbed by the beginning.

Sound, Music, Direction, and Editing were all top notch.

I for one didnt think the editing hindered the story. Its a short film....i'm not sure how quick cuts can mess that up. All your editing did was propel the story forward....and made it look cool in my opinion. I mean if you did that for a whole feature I can see how it would become bothersome...but you know that and this is a different kind of film.

In odd squad and bonehand the effects were kind of noticeable, but in this everything is seemless. The quality of this film is amazing. You had to have put an insane amount of work into it.

As for acting...the dialog being kinda stilted....I thought it was good. It seemed like something you were trying to go for. Just a different style.

But even with all of that...for some reason I don't really LIKE the movie. I mean I couldnt sit and watch it over and over. I dont think thats your fault though....I personally just don't like horror movies .....and you've made a great one.

overall.....I think you've risen to another level with this film.

10 from me.
