J.J Abrams "Cloverfield" project.

Iam wondering how they shot it, like let the actors film it on the parts where they showed themselves filming pov ya know what i mean?

I thought it was pretty good. Not great, but almost there. One of the main characters was a terrible actor (mostly his voice though since he holds the camera most of the film), and that hurt the film a lot, IMO. The other leads were really good though.

The audience had a very wide range of reactions... A guy behind me said "I don't know if I will ever go to the movies again after seeing that." Yikes.

I must say it was weird watching the first half of the film, having been in NYC for 9/11 and the blackout in 2003. Very familiar, especially since you don't see the monster for quite a while.

I thought that dude was hysterical. I throughly enjoyed his commentary. He was pretty funny at parts.

I was in NYC for the blackout. Not 9/11 though. Really I think the whole idea that they used and abused the attack was stupid. Fox News had a segment about it. Which is why I don't watch Fox News....but I digress...You can't really host a huge monster film out of NYC. Everyone knows what it looks like.

But yes, it was...almost surreal. Though I did enjoy it. The GG elements were very well done.

well i just came from the theater......
and i must say

I WAS BLOWN AWAY.

seriously, this film was ridiculously entertaining......a huge tease in the begining but it definetly satisfies. yea sure the guy holding the camera was not the best voice over actor, but thats becuase it works for his character: giving comin relief....

i was also suprised at how funny it was....like seriosly, before **** goes bad with the monster, the film is actually damn funny. special affects are ****en sick as hell....but the main aspect of the film that is amazing is how the movie makes the most out of each setting.

and in the audience....i heard alot of "omg" ..."what the hell" ..."this some crazy ****".....people were definetly shocked. nobody was ever bored.

definetly worth the 8 bucks.

**POTENTIAL SPOILERS**
i just got out of seeing it. it was exactly what i was expecting, which is a very entertaining movie that never explains itself. i liked the way it was done, and i was very satisfied, but nearly everyone the entire theater (apart from me and my girlfriend) absolutely hated the movie. i don't think people understood what they were going to see, which i don't get. even from the previews, you can assume that nothing will be explained, since it's all hand-held and the people wouldn't have a way of knowing what's going on. you also know from the very beginning that the footage is recovered from central park, therefore, everyone dies. it's a good movie--the tone is just like the trailer suggests. stupid people shouldn't be allowed to see movies.

I just saw it...AND I DONT CARE WHO KNOWS IT.--This movie was such a let down!!! Such a great idea- a first person perspective of a monster attack- but damn it if it didn't deliver. My head hurts from all the panning and whipping going on and all that "shaky cam"!!! I've actually never been so disappointed. I do have one question, though: Was the monster leviathan?

I did love the monster though...i so wanted to love this movie!!! I hope im not the only one. Maybe im missing something...

i don't think your missing something
this movie was extremely annoying on may levels.
but not on all. There where a few thing i liked, and thought where done well.
but in all it wasnt too hot.

After the movie there was dead silence. One guy yelled out from the back "WTF!"
The entire theater bust out laughing. Then about 30 people started boooing while everybody walked out. A group of 5 stayed, saying FU to each person's credits. lol
I have never seen this before, and it was very funny but very wrong.

I think what got me most was the horrible cookie cutter story and dialog. What i want to know is why did this movie come out in theaters, when it was made for the sci-fi channel.

Sooo... I work in a movie theater. I saw this last night at the employee screening. It reminded me only a little of the Blair Witch with the camera. It kinda gave me a headache. It also reminded me way too much of Godzilla. Not that Godzilla was bad or anything, but still... I didn't like how it left me asking way too many questions at the end. I need closure, but I desperately hope there isn't some sequel. The writer should just post a blog somewhere and explain everything in great detail.

Yeah, Variety is right, an 1/8 of the film was shot on the HVX, and a very small piece on the Canon. Like I said, most of the film is shot on the F23, because of its incredible latitude and lack of noise in the dimly-lit NY streets they often shot in.

Nice! Thanks for the link!

Variety actually said a full 1/3 of the film was shot with the Canon. That's 2.7 times as much Canon footage as Panasonic.

The film starts out with the Panasonic, then moves into transitional sequences shot with a 3-lb. Canon for about a third of the film."

Pretty impressive indeed!

I can't wait to see it on the big screen!

definetly worth the 8 bucks.

That makes me miss NC!! We paid $13/ticket last night, including the internet charge since there ws no way to get a ticker without buying online ahead of time.

After further reflection last night and this morning, I think that the movie had A LOT of flaws (which I won't list to avoid spoilers), but I still think it was very good. If only for the filmmakers being so bold in their choices.

saw the movie last night. i really liked it. i knew going into it, there was going to be a lot of the shaky cam with the whipping and stuff (i mean that WAS the movies big selling point, a monster attack on NYC as told Blair Witch style). I knew there was going to be 20 minutes of set up for the characters etc.

based on the beginning credits, i knew what was going to happen in the end, and wasn't at all disappointed with it. i knew things weren't going to get closure, and that's what i liked most about the movie. it didn't spoon feed you a great everything goes on type ending.

I think it's terrorists, who've developed a geneticely enhanced virus that mutates camels with missile launchers attached to there humps. or mothra.

Thats offensive.... But Friggin hilarious......

I give it the "Its ok, cause im muslim" seal of approval.

If anybody out there ever meets JJ Abrams, or whoever the hell directed this movie, can you do something for me? Can you sit them down and explain to them, in no uncertain terms, just what the f*ck a Steadicam is? 45 minutes after the end of the movie, I'm still feeling a little queasy...

Thought the movie was pretty good, though, aside from that and maybe taking a little too much time getting started. I know it's a time-honored tradition of this sort of movie to give us time to meet the characters before you start to kill them off, but can we start to put a time limit on it or something? We know you're going to kill at least most of these people off, so we're not going to get too attached. Honestly, I thought the best character stuff happened while they were on the run anyway...

Definitely worth seeing, but take some Dramamine just in case... :D
