I've decided to pull the trigger.. Any other thoughts

What if I am also looking for a hard light as well?? There will be some occasions to diffuse but some shoots where I need a hard light that I can control. Then what options are important?? What about a RedHead or a lowel that has more control. Or is that where barn doors come in??

I thought that was addressed already...

Start with a "hard" light - an open face or fresnel fixture, and diffuse or bounce as needed. That's how it's done.

A Redhead with barndoors is not all that different from a Lowel DP light with barndoors.

All these open face fixtures do the exact same things when lamped with 1K globes and what they output is almost identical to a 1K fresnel fixture:

It's where the barndoors come in. But...then again, even with diffusion the barndoors can come in, depending on what you have on there.

If you just have some opal clipped to the doors, the barn doors will you give a certain amount of control. When you're shooting the light through a 4x4 frame, the barn doors aren't going to do squat. You'll need to get additional cutters to fix that.

Great. Thanks so much. I guess Ill stick with a DP, bulb, stand and barn doors. Not really sure which clamp to get and i can always figure it out later. My wife is also happy with the price for our first light anyways. :)

Is there a site to get cheaper bulbs from. It comes with a 1000w 120v but I need a 1000 240v for use in the UK.

Thanks for all the help I hope that this thread is helpful to others in my position as well.
