I can buy NTSC version of this camera for a very good price, but I'm in Europe and I need PAL version. Its possible to somehow change NTSC version to PAL version?

Hi,

this is more than software folks, there are a couple of chips internally that would need to be swapped out. Best to look fo ra deal on a PAL unit if you need a PAL unit.

Best,

Jan

A PAL camera would be easiest...but it you want to shoot NTSC 24p and convert to PAL 25p here's how (and it is very easy):

Drop your NTSC 24p onto a 25p timeline and your footage will now play 4% faster than normal. This is not noticeable at all to the viewer, but the audio if recorded to camera with this 4% speed change might be. To fix speed adjusted audio export the original audio track to your favourite sound editing program, then speed up your audio track by 4% without changing the pitch. Import the new audio back onto your timeline and your ready to start editing.

Sorry not stretch the audio, shrink. When you import 24p footage to a 25p timeline each frame gets mapped one-to-one frame. So think of this, if there are suppose to be 25 frames in 1 second and you provide 24 you are short 1 frame for each second. Over time, your whole video project is 4% shorter including your audio which will sound funny. So you need to replace it with 4% sped up audio that is pitch corrected so it will match your new video on the timeline.

Hi Jan,

Am about to order my AF101 in the comming weeks now. But someone on the forum just told me there is a problem shooting in PAL 1080 at 25p? it would give a jerky footage once in Final Cut.
Is this problem solved for now?

Katty,

I think that most of the issue some of these folks are having is in the monitor they are using. I have a piece that was shot in 25P, we used it at the IBC and it looked fabulous.

As far as I know there is no issue.

Thanks,

Jan
