It's people! Wendy's Chili is people!

** For those just finding this thread, the update is that Wendy's has been the victim of attempted fraud and extortion. The individual who claimed to have found a finger has been arrested. The entire story was an attempted scam. **

Some people have all the luck. I'm sure finding that finger is worth an HDX and plenty of P2 cards. I like the part about the Wendy's spokesman asking people not to jump to conclusions. What sort of conclusions? Is it the conclusion that Wendy's uses human meat in it's chili or maybe the conclusion that Wendy's employees are beyond caring about the loss of their extremities?

That would freak me out. Mowing down a bowl of calssic wendy's chili until it becomes "crunchy".

I wonder what was crunchy, the fingernail or the bone? Because fingernails get soft in the shower, I bet it was the bone, unless it was cooked too long, that'll make anything crunchy.

How come that never happens to me? Damn if that wouldnt be a sudden cash windfall.

You know, I sure wouldn't sue them over something like this, but I wouldn't turn down a check either. How much do you think that Wendy's would offer in a situation like this?

Agreed, at first it's like "eeeewww" and then it's "That's like winning the freaking lottery, damn it".

I’m extremely confident that I have the psychological fortitude to get way over that trauma when the checkbook comes out

Just remember..............she said it was crunchy.

I'd take a check for that, too much hassle to actually sue, wouldn't hurt to threaten it though. But that is a little on the sly side, I think I'd let it go.

Wendy's should buy her silence. She could quite easily do a bunch of interviews and damage their reputation. That's gotta be worth some mighty greenback.

Isn't it funny how as Americans our first inclination is to see how much money we can get in a situation like this?

I agree and you’re absolutely right in some cases, there are definitely completely frivolous lawsuits out there clogging up the court systems and driving up consumer costs (Like suing the Snickers Candy Bar company or whatever for false advertising after you eat their product and you’re still not “dating super models” like the ad says you’ll be  ).

However, it is obviously a huge responsibility to serve food/drinks to the public. Who knows what other minor bacteria/material etc gets through Wendy’s QA mechanism. There has to be a change made and corporations only respond to PR and cash threats. You think they’re personally sorry, absolutely not, they’re sorry this is a PR disaster for them. There has to be a penalty that provokes change if there’s a potential ongoing threat to the public in my opinion.

I keep thinking about the poor lower level guy that’s going to get fired over this. Probably under-staffed and working with outdated equipment trying to police food processing, he or she will probably get the blame.

(Jumping off the soap-box now  )

It's like something out of a horror movie. Woman eating chili, bites into a finger, bazooka vomits. It sucks that it happened, but part of me thinks it's cool that this stuff actually happens.

Ew...that's sickening. The strangest part is that they're still tracking where the finger came from.

Awesome.

That Wendy's is really close to my house. I've eaten there a couple times. Gross.
