Actually, you can do that with the Hocus Focus motor arm....

But is the hofo motor arm a single clamp or double clamp? Also dennis had it on the very end of the rods.
 
Single rod clamp, and it was about an inch from the end of the rod aswell. (barely any gap between the hofo mount and the redrock swing away arm)
 
Its to show that the follow focus is strong and sturdy. I have no problems with hanging my rig off the hocus focus motor because its very strong and sturdy and i know it wont drop it. Same with dennis's demo photo...

Cheers Matty, its got to take a lot of use. Dennis's unit is looking good with a lifetime warranty.

Dennis, quick question. The mount tightener (for lack of a better word) seems quite large. Is this the final product we are looking at?

I think people will like the additional leverage on that. I'm pretty sure it's final. It looks to me to be a kip lever of sorts.
 
That lever is metal, is adjustable (when pulled out will "free-wheel") and is functionally identical to what we'll ship. Aesthetically, it will not be the same simply because it doesn't integrate with our design as well as I'd like.

Car3. as I suggested in the video...you'd never hold your rig like that in practice. We did it only to demonstrate the engineering that went into our mount after a few folks questioned its effectiveness. That mount represents nearly 2 years of finessing over detail.
 
Brilliant design. If a remote focus motor can hold with one clamp, no reason a well designed manual FF shouldn't. Price is right. Can't wait to test one.

The only design feature I'd love to see is an open ended clamp so you can switch sides without having to remove the MB. Is it too late? Too expensive? Or just not strong enough? Arri did this with their new little FF but it clamps to both rods. With my Chrosziel had that feature. Zacuto's new FF has an even slicker approach to that problem - slide out, slide in. Not sure an open ended clamp would be strong enough. I'll test the open side on a Z riser to see if it has the grip.

Anyway, if the action is as smooth and precise to that of Arri or Chrosziel, you got a winner.
 
Dennis, I have to again commend you on all that hard work on the design of this. I'm going to order one in the not-too-distant future. :)

We thought about this with the Hocus Focus Motor. Its a tough one really, as you need to develop some kind of hinge so part of the clamp section can fold away to allow the rod out of the clamp. To do this and maintain a strong clamping force is hard work. Its also more bits to machine which is expensive, and more bits to go wrong or go missing.

If you are using two rods its much easier as you can use the two rods against each other to hold the block onto the rods.

The Hocus Focus motor has been so successful on one rod, we have designed the receiver rod mount with one rod, and some other un announced future products will just grip a single rod as well.

Seems to work well.
