CinePorter™ FAQ

1) The playback has nothing to do with the HVX. The CinePorter as of now can play back 8gb (which is A LOT) I dont see any real reason to NEED to watch playback on something that long) HOWEVER SpecComm is working hard at creating an longer playback, or without and restriction.

2)Correct

2a) As previously discussed, the cineporter will do just that. It creates 4gig partitions. Which will be perfect for backups to DVD.

3) See images below.

Thanks for covering that Patrick. Remember Jason that the Camera breaks the files at 4GB even on an 8GB card. Also the camera will only play back 2 8GB cards without stopping to reload.

Boy, you are fishing! Do you remember what was said about removable drives by me before and by other manufacturers?

David

Yeah. I kinda do. I also don't remember you ever saying it was impossible :)

It would just kinda depend on what the cineporter "computer stuff" could do, right? If it was capable of "formatting" a new drive and doing whatever was necessary, it could be possible. Ok, I'll stop now.

Personally, I don't really care about the removeable HDD thing. I know I will never need more record time than what is offered with the 160 gig cineporter as it is. But, there is the issue that was discussed about being able to possibly remove a HDD from the cineporter at the end of a days shoot and hand over that "original" footage to a client. That would be the potential main benefit that I could see.

Later,
Jason

It would be so much fun! Just try it! Think of all the children in the world you would make happy! And nothing is more fun than making children happy...except making children I guess...lol

Not much fun.

Not much fun.

Hi David, with all due respect, it would be very "fun" to hear something concrete about the CinePorter. I've been holding off buy the FS100 because I'd really rather buy the CinePorter. But I'm at a crossroads and wonder why you can't just give us a date? That's all. It would make purchasing decisions so much easier. I don't want to buy the FS, but if that's all there is, I'll have to go that route. Any info?

BAD NEWS: Spec-comm testing out those blades seriously. Hundreds of Cineporters flying over atlantic, first release in Italy:)

hmm, what exactly does this new feature do? Is it just for offloading your footage onto your computer or could you also use it to capture footage from a non p2 camera? It says "dumb" so I'm assuming it only does the first.

I'm getting excited. with the "check back regularly for updates" spec-comm will probably be getting a lot of hits on just that one page, haha.

OMG! If this is what I think it is this is awesome! I think it means you can plug in any firewire or USB 2 drive STRAIGHT into the cineporter WITHOUT THE NEED OF A COMPUTER! The "built in offload utility" acts as the computer to transfer files to a bare external hardrive after you have captured your footage! Is this correct?

Yes, that's how I'm interpreting it, it's for offloading the contents of the Cineporter to a USB or Firewire (including FW800) drive without needing to connect it to a PC or using an OTG drive.

Thanks Guys,

We have been working very hard to make your work flow and the investment in the CinePorter and P2 a good one. Even after the Suggestion form was taken off line, we have been getting thousands of requests for certain features. Making the wok flow and P2 ownership easier and less expensive is one of our goals.

David

Ok, so I've been laughing at all you fanboys that have been willing to publically show your excitement and anticipation, like kids who've been told they're going to F.A.O. Schwartz next weekend. I appreciate your openess, but you sound like I do talking to my wife about this stuff, and she loves to make fun of my child-like wide-eyed wonder.

But I have to say, my excitement has officially boiled over with this latest announcement. I think when all is said and done, this product is going to far exceed our expectations! Thanks, Spec-Comm!

There's a Wok too?! You just made my wife very happy.
Sorry. This thread has become a bit silly over the last few days with peoples excitement and giddyness, and I couldn't resist.

But, seriously. Thanks for the update. It is much appreciated. We are looking forward to more.

I for one am not ashamed to express my excitement for this product, nor my appreciation for what you guys are doing. I do honestly believe you are attempting to make the best product you can, and incorporate as many of our suggestions as you are able.

I am grateful, excited, and still trying to figure out how to get some more money for my CP-3's

Thanks,
Jason
