iTablet- PC's iPad w/ USB & MultiTask

Frankly, I have no use for a tablet. If I cannot use my iPhone for a task, I have to use my laptop. There's no middle ground between them.

Hmm, wonder if it runs Final Cut Pro or Avid...

Twas a joke. Editing on something like that must be a pain.

I'm loving this switch to tablets though. We've seen it in sci-fi all the time. It's useful as an on the go computer... if people weren't looking to mug it while you walk down the street.

it only runs windows & linux, so... FCP isn't an option, avid however...... ehh, probably not, processing speed isn't quite adequate.

Somebody please explain to me what the big deal is with these tablets? Seems to me that they are nothing more than touchscreen laptops with no keyboard. And weak laptops at that. And who likes touch screen typing? And how do you even prop this thing up without the keyboard form-factor? I don't get it. Seems like a lot of hype to me.

I'm surprised that Apple has yet to trademark the lower case i.

I think a big point is that many many computers are going to move away from the keyboard as the primary interface. And I think this is a good thing. I know we're all used to it now, but think about how ridiculous it is to need a keyboard for basically everything you need to do on a computer. You have to sit somewhere, set it down, pretty much always use both hands for just about every single action. You have to adjust YOURself to the machine. This is wrong, wrong, wrong.

I find it much simpler and more intuitive to be able to "flick" photos over to my friends, than to have to type out an email, attach the photos, etc. Same thing with many actions you might want with a computer you carry like a laptop.

Or even a task like video and film editing. We all grew up doing it with a keyboard, but I don't think it's a stretch to imagine editing machines moving to touch screen flatbeds, and you edit with your fingers right on the screen, rather than with keyboard commands. Same thing for a lot of jobs that now require you to type.

I like this shift. Computers are still in the dark ages for most peoples' uses. And being chained to an ancient typewriter keyboard for every little action is absurd to me.

I couldn't agree more. If it doesn't fit in my pocket, I'd rather use a full-on laptop or netbook. Otherwise, it's both too large and underpowered to really be useful.

haha I saw this on the side of my profile on Facebook...

I really hate the thought of that. I'm at a stress point right now where sitting down with my laptop really is a way to unwind. If I could walk around using it without having to sit down I might do that, but that would also mean sitting down a lot less which in turn might just make me more stressed out.
I don't have an iPhone and I don't want one.

It's kind of like takeaway coffee. Let's sit down for a moment and enjoy a cup instead.

I don't think that the keyboard is on it's way out. It will always be of great use for desktop machines. Desktop machines could even use both a touchscreen and keyboard.

Tablets are for more on the go computers. They may or may not replace laptops in the future. But I do agree they make more sense, so that we adjust the computer to our needs. Who's to say that the future won't have both laptops and tablets? OR tablets that can be modified into laptops and vise versa? When you just want a tablet you detach the screen...

For those who are used to keyboards and laptops and the like, well it's just a matter of getting used to it. I'm sure that if someone were to grow up using tablets, they would find laptops and keyboards to be clunky and annoying.

The pad is actually more useful for people with a specific function, not for all puposes. I know for a fact a loft of hospitals are embracing the new technology and ease of access in something as form fitting in a pad is a remarkable thing. I can also see great potential in an iPad with Movie Magic or Gorilla installed on it. Seamless transfer from desktop in office, to iPad/slate on set for your Line Producer/1st AD. That's a lot of convenience of changes at their fingertips right there... change a strip, reschedule a shot, whatever... it's entered and done in seconds and sent out to everyone.

It's not made for eeveryone, but for those who want something like this, it absolutely perfect.
