don't hate but, one of them has no legs. You still cool right?  ;D

Mino, the website looks alot better than when I logged on the first time 3 months ago. I do agree with some about it looking a little busy. Simplicity is what i like. It's still nice, i have no problems navigating. One thing i do not like is the featured artist needs to go. Disjecta already won his award. It's time you featured someone else. I'm jelous of Steve, thats why.  ;)

okay now back to threadjacking.. ;)

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

mino - i design flash sites as a freelance job, so here is my main critique...every time I click on a new section there is a new preloader. even the smallest things the preloader pops up...the problem is not entirely the preloader per say but the fact that the whole 'flow' gets interrupted as a result - we are taken to this nearly blank screen with the preloader bar...try to create a main shell that stays there no matter what - compartmentalize your sections and have transitions such as fade ins and fade outs each time someone goes to a new section.. this will keep a constant flow to the site and have your audience engaged (just like a film)

try going to www.2advanced.com for some great inspiration

keep it up

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

Thanks Young....Flash is new to me, I've dabbled wiyh it over time but to design a site in it is a big learnig curve and a frustrating one at that. I am working on a new theme as we speak as I think that is what the site is lacking. By that I mean an overall theme if you get my drift.

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

Man...now I'm really confused, I got two e-mails today...sorry three, two from people I've never heard of. All were in praise of the site. And I'm in the middle of an overhaul. What is the lesson here? :-/

Question for PK. What websites with bevels and drop shadows were you visiting in the 80's? I went to college in the early 90's and all there was then were a few BBs's :-/

I'm not pokin at you there just curious ;)

I always say listen to KAI on web design. ;D :D

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

That's probably a good idea...I'm still getting poked in the eye on the musical front so I'm gonna put in a few Groucho marx jokes instead. I'll be firing up a new look on the fx page later if you want to take a boo.

Ask two people....get four answers.

You will never be able to please everyone. As you should be happiest with pleasing yourself. Hmm. That came out wrong.

What I mean is, don't compromise your vision, but DO listen to the majority and take it into consideration. Afterall, they are the visitors you wish to attract, whether it be a website, a movie, or a song. Paintings don't count...People do some whacked **** in paintings. :D

Ultimately, do it the way you want to do it, but if someone's comment inspires you to modify, then do it by choice, not by force.

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

Wise words antOmic.

Mino - I was kidding about the out of syle in the 80's comment. But bevel and drop shadows (unless used sparingly) is usually the sign of an amateur/out-dated design. Photoshop has certain effects that amateurs use and ones that professionals use. When a pro visits a website he can immediately tell if the website designer is a pro or amateur. Much like you're able to tell, by looking at a movie, if the filmmaker is a seasoned pro or a first-timer.

Your site is good and it's a good idea. As of right now your site is better than most sites I visit. Just remember to keep it simple at first. You can add bells and whistles later. Maybe make the HTML version first. Learning Flash is a huge task and can be overwhelming. (I don't know Flash, but I tried once.)

Good luck!

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

Thanks PK, Antomic. The site has already been through the simple stage, for months it sat at the simple stage. Now I'm trying to add the bells and whistles and smoke and shuttle launches and barking circus dogs and and and.......Too much eh?

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

If somebody has time to look...The FX page is the new look for the whole site. Gone are the bevels, drop shadows, music and smoke. The theme I'm out to capture now is an old site that is in need of repair but still functional....Yes I'm still workong on it. It's a good thing you don't have to take deleted files out to dumpster cos I would have worn out a pair of shoes by now.
