It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

So....My new website is up, though not complete the main shells are done. At this stage I invite you people to take a look and let me know how it behaves in your different browsers and its performance on your various systems. Any malfunctions or concerns should be addressed before the final push over the next three days, so I can make changes now. There is an html version scheduled for later. I value your input as you are all pro's in my book. Thanks in advance.

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

Shells work fine in Safari -- no material yet, right?? Resize fine link fine. I thought a kind of odd choice for the retro loading graphics... just me.

Thakns captain, The retro loaders are just place holders at this point in time, Peter Max style.

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

Just took a super fast look and the first thing I noticed - Background music... Web pages IMHO should not have background music.

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

Thanks guys, is anyone making it through the 10 second loop on the FX page?....is it too heavy?

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

Hi mino, I would take out the spinning welcome thing at the bottom and up the contrast on the links in the middle. When they go to purple you lose them in the background. One more thing, you have mucho fonts going on or at least it seems so because of all the different styles. The logo at the top, the V looks like a U. I was trying to figure out what it was until i read the spinning stuff. My speakers were off so i didnt hear any music. Good luck with your site.

I wish i had the time to finish puffin films in flash. I started to do it but I dont have the patience anymore for it.

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

This is a good start; I do agree to disagree with you with Dakota; music on web pages are annoying as all hell; especially if someone is at thier office and suddenly music starts playing; or if they are already dialed into a station and suddnely there is dissoance; there shouldnt be music; are you showcasing your music or your work?  think on it.

I also think the 'V' looks like a 'U' and there many competing fonts.

Why the bevel on the frames?  LEads to ven more businessess on an already busy page.  Its hard to focus and it shouldnt be; the eyes should be drawn eimmediatley to what you want them to see; not compete for elements on the page.  Im looking ledt, up, down, right...

The middle upper frame is very hard to read the fonts.

In fact; the design element for the LINK FX is great to me.  The other ones are too much.  Id consider sticking with one design element throughout.  ITs almost like a new site everytime you click a link.  I like the FX page, but not the smoke and flashing and not the bevel.

Just my .02 and as always honest

I also think outland pictures should be the fetaured artist of the month.  Okay; just kidding on that one.

Also, one more thing.  The LOGO in the upper left should always be a hyperlink back to the homepage!

And the load was long; my machine is smokin fast and I had to wait ike 4 or 5 seconds!

either Hudson drinkin' again, or he's taking posting lessons from brm.

Mino, I like your monthly artist showcase feature, but for a front page, overall it's a bit too busy for my taste.

ditto with John. He nails my thoughts in his post... so read his again :)

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

As a typical viewer the first thing I notice is; when loading the flash website the counter (1%-100%) is cropped so you can't see the entire "%" sign (on IE on a PC). The main site looks ok. I like how your background image in the masthead is continued down into the mid-section. Nice touch. The spinning "Welcome..." on the left and right are a bit much. If you're going to say "Welcome" it should be near the top and not repeated twice.

Those are my suggestions as a typical viewer. Now, as a professional web designer here are my comments.

Beveled Edges/Drop Shadow - I almost fainted when I saw the beveled edges and drop shadows (those went out of style in the 1980's).

Music - I'm also not a fan of music on websites. The reason most pro sites don't have music is because you don't want to give your vistors a reason to NOT visit again. You want to make their visit as pleasant as possible. After a few repeats of your music I turned my speakers off, which is annoying to me because I was playing my favorite MP3 music. (Another visitor might choose to leave your site instead of turning off their speakers.) If you love the music then please provide an option to turn it off (like other sites do). Give visitors a choice.

Fonts - Someone already mentioned the font issue. Professional sites only use 1-2 Fonts on a website and stick with them (everywhere). You need to create a brand. Having multiple fonts is a BIG no-no. Same with colors.

Colors - Your color palette is all over the place (purple, teal, blue, yellow, orange, pink). Chose 2-3 colors as your brand colors and stick with them. Think "brand" for everything you do and when eating always think "bran."

Ok, I'm done. Hope my suggestions helped. Good luck with the site Mino. Can't wait to see more.

Re: It looks ok on paper but will it fly?

Right then.....Where do I start? Thanks to everyone for the feedback first off. now Im confused. I like most of the work...but that doesn't amount to a hill of beans because I'm not the one I want to come see it. I have to get this thing right because quite frankly my ass is getting sore not to mention the carple tunnel syndrome onset. You all make valid points about design that I don’t want to hear because of the time it takes to fix it. LOL PK with the bevel and shadow having left town in the 80’s, I feel like quoting Ed Harris from Appollo 13 “ Okay gentlemen….what have we got on the site that’s good?” However I cant ignore your wisdom and knowledge as I have no experience in web design or page layout. So I will go back and re-evaluate the elements in question and fix your concerns and my newly enlightened concept of them. I do like the flashing and the smoke because personally I like movement and pizzaz in my multimedia else I would stay off the web and buy magazines. Thanks again for feedback.
