Issues with Keying Objects into background in FCP

I am pretty new to FCP and I'm having difficulty achieving a certain shot and I was wondering if someone could explain or point me to a link that would help me out.

We filmed a person in front of a greenscreen and used FCP's Chroma Key filter. Now, we have moved this person into a different shot where they are in the distant background. A person in the foreground walks by and in front of the person in the background. The background person obviously overlaps everything in the shot, and as a result appears in front of the person in the foreground. Is there a way to fix this in FCP so that when the person in the foreground walks by, the person in the background disappears behind them?

Any help would be very appreciated.

You're sort of building it backwards. Normally, you'll composite everything in layers, and what's in the foreground is on the top layer. Of course, that requires that the foreground character is keyed in as well.

The way to do what you're attempting is a bit time consuming... you need to use a garbage matte. You'll have to go frame-by-frame to crop out the background character to the border of the foreground character.
