Issue updating 14-140 on AF100

Tried to update my 14-140 from version 1.2 to 1.4 this morning.

I downloaded the firmware update (mac version), formatted the card in camera and dropped the firmware update in the root folder.

When I go to the Lens Update menu item and click "Yes", it says "Check Card" and won't proceed.

I've tried this with two 16gb Panasonic Gold cards and a cheap Ridata 2gb card.

Yes, the lens is attached to the camera, and I get the error regardless of my "Lens Check" preference.

Any ideas?

The firmware file is named "ES100314.lin", unzipped from the "VS014140V14.zip" file from Panasonic's site.

Make sure the Mac did not add the invisible files like .DSstore anywhere on the card. Invisible files always start with a "." (period).

There are many ways to see invisible files on a Mac. One of the easiest is to download Cocktail and use its show invisibles option, and then turn off that option. It is free to use 10 times.

Then just remove the card don't dismount it first (this is the only time I want you to do this with any mac mounted media).

In the future when offloading cards leave cards locked to keep the mac from writing invisible files to your cards.

I don't have a solution, but i can confirm that the update for the 14-140 worked when i did it on my gh2.

Hey, Rudd! Why not just bring that AF-100 over to my place, and you can use my GH2 to update the firmware on your 14-140mm.

I met up with Stephen to update the lens on his GH2.

The updated lens works with the AF100, but I found no way to perform the update through the AF100.

Woah, some of my favorite posters: Stephen, Tacotim and Rudd all in the same thread! I guess we need to attached our GH2 to the two 14-140mm lenses we have here now.

I was able to update the firmware on the 14-140mm using the AF100, but I had to use my wife's PC to put the file on the card. As Olof suggested above, the AF100 probably didn't like the hidden files that my Mac put on the card the first time I tried the update.

However, even with lens firmware 1.4 now installed, the lens still loses focus and has weird exposure pulsations when snap zooming, as some have reported elsewhere on this forum. I don't remember the lens behaving like that way back when I used to use it on my GH1 (which I sold long before the hack appeared!)

lens update no go

lens update no go

Anyone found a technique for updating the 14-140 lens on an AF100 that works? I put the ES100314.lin file in the root directory of a card, inserted the card in the slot 1 on the camera, went to lens update and it just does nothing. The lens info says it is still V1.3. What give?
