ISSUE: Rode NT3 mated to Sony UWP Plug-in

I recently picked up a Rode NT3 to go with my new Sony UWP system. Both work perfectly, except when I try to mate the plug-in transmitter directly to the Rode. I have to give it a good push to click/engage, and when I turn on the mic I get an enormous amount of hiss.

I've messed with the attenuator levels on the transmitter. I haven't messed much with frequency adjustments. I'm using the default settings of the UWP transmitters (I have both the plug-in and body pack w/ lav) and receiver. The channels and frequency on all three units match. I can record to the lav no problem. Also sounds great when I record to the NT3 via an intermediate XLR cable. (I am recording directly to my EX1r). Any thoughts? I was really hoping I could use the NT3-plug-in combo for some impromptu handheld stuff.

Again, there are no problems with any single piece here. It is only the combo of NT3+Plugin that is causing me grief. I have a hunch that the physical connectivity between the units is compromised because of the resistance I encounter when plugging them together. I really have to push to get them to lock together...

Overall, I must say, the NT3 sounds like gold compared to my old piece-of-crap consumer shotgun, which I had recorded to a cheap field recorder. I also picked up an NTG-3 which also sounds fantastic straight into the EX1r.

(Finally, just a quick note of thanks to Chadfish, whose informative videos and comments persuaded me to invest in the NT3. Current issue aside, I couldn't be happier with it.)

The Sony specs of the UTX-P1 plug-on transmitter mention nothing about phantom power, so my guess is that the transmitter doesn't have it. That means that it cannot power the mic. The NT-3 can run off an internal, 9v battery, though. Is there a battery in there, and is it fresh?

You'd think that checking the 9v battery is something I would have done before posting here. I'm honestly not too sure on the battery's freshness. It was sitting in my bag for "a while." I'll post back if a new battery doesn't resolve it. I can always be counted on to overlook the obvious.
