hey everyone, please take time to help me if you can, ive been having some problems lately with my footage. My footage (after capturing) turns out looking real bad quality, alot of the edges of objects have those "jaggies" along them, and there are slanted moving lines on some objects in the shot sometimes. sort of like the moir effect. i capture in fcp, it might be the settings, but i dont know how to change the settings or what settings to use. has anyone else had this problem? i'll upload a full res clip for everyone to see what i mean.

Dang thats just plain ugly. What are you capturing with? Make sure the settings are on high rez capture if theres an option. Avid allows you to capture low rez footage for editing and then you can recapture the same thing at a higher rez.

i use fcp for editing. i just found out that using a head cleaner too often can damage the quality permenently which i really hope isnt what happened. i use a head cleaner pretty often, how often are you supposed to use them?

i doubt it. with digital there is no gradual degradation of quality. it either works or not. if your heads were worn out, you would start to get more dropouts and eventually not be able to record. it would never just give you a bad overall image. i clean my heads every 50 hours of use or when i see the red x.

ok, your footage finally loaded. is your gain switch on med or high? that's a killer. also, if you shot at 24p, not 24pa then you should be editing at 30fps or 29.97fps. i thought i saw some frame blending going on which happens when you edit regular 24p footage at 24fps. also check to make sure you are capturing at highest quality......

Wow....how much is pretty often? Head cleaners are mildly abrasive, you should only use a head cleaner when you have the signs of a dirty head.

sounds like you could either be viewing your footage at low res, so that it is easier to edit, or could be importing the footage in at the wrong inputs. Check your preferences to determine it. later
